Proper Citation in Academic Writing
One of the most important part writing is using other people’s ideas. It is important that you show that you really understand the things that you have read from their materials and you can use it on your own way, for the fact that it is an important skill for every student. You need to make your own version base on how you understand it. Reading others written ideas help you enhance yours, this will help you to make a good paper.

You need to show that you really understand the topic and that you can suggests or contribute to the topic. And if you are making contributions you need to make sure that you support it by referring to other people’s work. This will make your argument stronger. By reporting, you just report other’s ideas using your own words. You can explain it briefly if you want it short or translate it you want the same length. The other one is by direct quotation, you can put the same words or the exact words of the author but you have to make sure that you quote it. Quoting must always have a good. We cannot always quote one’s work, it will be only use when needed. Your paper must be a combination of information and not a bunch of quotations. And if you are using direct quotation you must quote the exact words or phrases as they are in the original.
In citing sources for academic papers, a student often uses books or other secondary sources. You should always put references to those secondary sources at the end of the papers, so called bibliography. Bibliography is a list of all the sources you have used in your academic paper. In this article, Ferriter (2009) reveals many benefits from the use of technology in the classroom with our 21st-century learners. The resources and suggestions mentioned throughout this reading will assist teachers in ways to avoid problems and becoming engaging instructors by using technology in innovative ways. What I found was so innovative by this approach was by creating a network of innovative co-learners where collaboration takes place regularly, Ferriter (2009), is able to experiment with digital connections without ever meeting other teachers in person. Not only is this beneficial for students and teachers all over the world, but also simple. What I found was unique and useful was the worldwide collaboration that helps teachers explore skills and dispositions that assisted with the network cooperation by creating shared content.

When quoting a quote that is used in your own source, you must think differently about how you incorporate the information. However, you only cite the actual source you are reading. However, citations and referencing are not the same thing. Citations refer to the specific material source mentioned in the body of the conducted research. The citations could be applied depending upon the research styles like Harvard, APA, and MLA (Schubert, 2013). A citation must cover the basic parameters of the author name, publication year, page number or range. While references, on the other hand, imply the list of references that has been used and is accessible to the readers of the work (Flick, 2015).

Referencing is a method to cite information from different sources, and it is beneficial for all authors to provide evidence accurately. There are two most common referencing styles such as Harvard style and APA style, however, the APA style is mostly used in writings related to health science. The reason why referencing is important in health science is that it helps to offer credits to the original authors who have been used in other people’s work which is necessary for avoiding plagiarism. I learned that it is important to clearly state the points I plan to discuss in my thesis and use my sources to highlight my ideas or provide examples of counter arguments rather than focusing my essay around the sources. When integrating sources, I learned that it is important to clearly state your opinion and what the source does for my opinion. A good example of this is this excerpt from my Draft 2.2, “Laura Weiner provides a new stance and explains … This new take on women covering as an act of rebellion solidifies the concept that choosing to cover does not contradict feminism, while also providing the Muslim woman a feeling of strength and triumph.” I used my sources to provide the reader a new view on the issue, while solidifying my opinion.
This practice usually involves the addition of a page number, or a paragraph number in the case of web content. Citing Your Own Material -If some of the material you are using for your research paper was used by you in your current class, a previous one, or anywhere else you must cite yourself. Treat the text the same as you would if someone else wrote it. It may sound odd, but using material you have used before is called self-plagiarism, and it is not acceptable. Referencing One of the most important ways to avoid plagiarism is including a reference page or page of works cited at the end of your research paper.
Third, the evidence which is used to support the academic writing is a significant feature. The ideas should be, at least, proved by trustful resources, which are according to periodicals, books, databases, and so on. When using information from outside sources, the writer should paraphrase, summarize or quote them to avoid plagiarism. Furthermore, it is about the style that the writing should be well-organized with logical order. Presenting the ideas in a clear way helps the audience find it interesting to read.
Research is in fact the scientific method of writing and the way to make a certain topic clear with the support of citation. I started this class with the goal to further develop abilities in the essentials of university-level academic writing.

If a student does not know how to cite the work they want to, it is always appropriate to ask a teacher of professor for help.
With the advent of the Internet, finding source material for writing is no longer an arduous task; the arduous task is now sifting through the glut of information available to find the nugget of reputable information. The chapter "Finding Sources," from Bullock and Goggin's The Norton Field Guide for Writing with Readings, gives ground rules to help in the searching, sorting, and citing of sources. There are various sources covered in the text: primary sources, such as first-hand accounts; secondary sources, which would be analyses of primary articles. Also mentioned are academic sources and non-academic sources. The authors also go over the provisos for academic sources: e.g. author, peer review, source citations, publisher, language and content.
