During the 1600's there use to be two very important settlements, the North, also known as the Puritans which is a type of religion in the North, and the South, also known as Jamestown which is located in Virginia. There were many differences between these two settlements like their economy, religion, climate, trade, and the way people live their lives. With the North their climate involved longer winters, mild and short summers. “The cold weather caused less disease compared to the warmer regions.” As of the South, their climate was the complete opposite.
New England and Chesapeake Settlements Some may think that both the New England and Chesapeake regions were alike, since they were settled by the English. However, they would be wrong as the two regions settled here with different motives. The Jamestown colony was led by John Smith, while the Mass Bay colony was led by John Cotton and John Winthrop.
Although the separation from England was a united movement, not all colonies settled for the same reasons. Therefore, as a result of this difference, each colony had its own motives to base its social foundation on. In the “Charter of Privileges Granted by William Penn, esq. to the Inhabitants of Pennsylvania and Territories, October 28, 1701”, it is exemplified how the guidelines set up after colonization was used to attract a certain group of people wanted by the Proprietary and Governor. The charter relinquished to the colony of Pennsylvania, was an articulation of the newly endowed rights given to the people, as well as, an act of appeal.
The Chesapeake and New England regions were the first places the English settled when they came across from Europe. American Indian societies had their own way of living before they arrived, but the English brought new ideas with them that transformed and bettered these regions. Although, there were geographical and environmental aspects to the Chesapeake and New England regions that slowed their development during the 17th and 18th centuries, like cold, snowy winters and bugs that ate away at their crops. these regions soon prospered because of the seclusion of their farms from villages, well-watered grounds, and wide range of crops and animals.

Protestantism was a new way of religion that challenged the usual Catholic religion. It was a very controversial idea throughout Europe, where as many countries accepted it as their religion but the countries part of the Holy Roman Empire were against it.
Although all the colonists all came from England, the community development, purpose, and societal make-up caused a distinct difference between two distinct societies in New England and the Chesapeake region. The distinctions were obvious, whether it be the volume of religious drive, the need or lack of community, families versus single settlers, the decision on minimal wage, whether or not articles of agreements were drawn for and titles as well as other social matters were drawn, as well as where loyalties lay in leaders. New England was, overall, more religious than the Chesapeake region. Settlers in New England were searching relief for religious persecution in Europe. Puritans, Quakers, and Catholics were coming in droves to America searching for an opportunity to have religious freedom.

The European Union, also known as the EU is a supranational organization that consists of 28 different countries. The EU was made to bring together countries that were torn apart by the war and to create peace between those countries. The EU works toward shared goals and issues yet remain separate countries all the same. The benefits of being a member in the European Union does not outweigh the costs due to loss of sovereignty, social unrest and peace, economic issues, and cultural identity with the diversity of languages and cultures.
The British colonies in the Chesapeake region and those of the New England region were both similar yet different in certain ways. One because both the colonist that settled there were looking for new opportunities. However, it was mostly second son aristocrats, which means the first born usually inherits the better half of the father’s riches. Their lives in England had either been mistreated or they were unable to flourish economically. Regardless of whether they were searching the land for expansive homesteads, religious freedom, or exchanging and merchant opportunities, the colonist in both regions were searching for another land in the New World.
When I walked into the classroom, the students were learning about the reasons settlers first came to the United States, and the reasons some picked to come to North Carolina over other colonies. It was a basic introduction to the start of colonization, which was expected as the school year had just began. The student body in Mr. Giblin’s class was quite diverse. 60 percent of students were female, while the other 40 percent were male.

The early Virginia and New England colonies differed politically, socially, and economically due to the situations that the settlers faced. Throughout many of the letters written about some of the experiences of the earlier settlers, one can easily see a major difference in the way of life of the two colonies. Although many of these colonies differed in the way of life, each colony faced some similar things that they each had to overcome. These challenges made a massive difference in the way that each of the colonies started out and directly influenced the future for both colonies. When these challenges are faced, many of the settlers will create the foundations of their political, social, and economic systems.
The First Nations, the Virginians, and the New England Puritans all had a different respect or attitude towards the physical environment in North America. While the First Nations had inhabited the land for already some time, it was a new land for the European colonist. There are many different factors that contributed the three groups’ differing attitudes towards the environment, but it comes down to their purposes or goals in the “New World.” In the long run, these differing attitudes had multiple consequences.
