As an individual, I make the most of my god given skills through a positive attitude while also being a positive influence on others. Effort is one of the only things you can control throughout your life. With all the twists and turns life throws at you, effort will always be an aspect you can control. Effort is an attribute that can’t be taught. It comes from motivation within yourself and the drive you possess. I have always had a big heart for every type of person. I was successful in my first job as a youth basketball instructor, as I was able to show patience and compassion. As a “youth basketball instructor” for our town’s Rec Dept, going into my first day I had no idea what to expect. I had experience my little brother for 10 years, so I was confident I could work with young children. First, what I needed to learn is that there are different ways of explaining a basketball skill so a kindergarten could understand it. This skill I know will come in handy at the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater and future careers. My compassion really shines through when I am around children. A member of the National Honor Society must demonstrate his/her commitment to academics as well as making an impact on the community surrounding them. A person who is able to successfully do both is someone who has qualities of leadership and scholarship, but also has a good character and chooses to help others without expecting anything in return. In all likelihood, I would be a good representative of the National Honor Society, because these are things I stand for and qualities I display in my daily routine. National Junior Honor Society, or NJHS, is a program permitted to students that show the following characteristics: Leadership, Service, Scholarship, Citizenship, and a Good and Positive Character. I feel as though throughout my middle school years I have displayed each of these traits a multitude of times.

Health and social care is something that I have always been passionate about. Because I have studied health and social care for the last four years I have regularly met a lot of the most vulnerable members of society through past work experiences. Through past placements I have worked with children who have special needs. This helped me develop ways of communicating with the children this could be through sign language. Because my Aunt is deaf I have taught myself basic sign language in order to communicate with her effectively.
My Self-Concept My self-concept includes a number of different adjectives and roles, these include both good and bad things. The adjectives I use to describe myself are as follows: kind, loyal, selfish, hard working, apathetic, practical, honest, occasionally rude, and procrastinator.
