Dear Members of the Search Committee,
I am applying for the Biology Instructor position at the College of Southern Nevada. I am tremendously excited about the prospect of working at CSN, teaching a diverse group of students and focusing my time and energy towards mentoring students, collaborating with colleagues, and developing innovative, transferable courses. Over the last 3 years, I have been teaching Intro to Biology (Biol 189), and I have experienced teaching students from many different cultural backgrounds, including international and non-traditional students. I have also designed and taught ESL courses to Spanish speaking adults of varying degrees of English proficiency and a wide range of educational

The first part of my courses are teacher-centered and include a lecture session where students are expected to absorb information and memorize key facts. Since the lecture is a one way presentation and there is little interaction with the teacher, I follow up the lecture with a series of demonstrations allowing students to view several approaches of reaching the same conclusion and also provide them with multiple examples. My courses end with group activities to promote self-learning and critical thinking by finding solutions through exploration and guided discovery. Students are encouraged to identify personal challenges with the material, collaborate with their group members to resolve these difficulties, and work toward a common goal. I find the lecture component allows important information to reach a large group of higher education students, while the group activity component address individual needs. I also aim to include a blend of lab work, readings, and discussion to actively engage students with the material. Students find my courses challenging, yet

I’m Melanie Lint from Johnstown, Pennsylvania and I’m writing to you because I am interested in playing softball at Virginia Tech. Not only am I interested in your excellent softball team, I am also interested in your advanced Pre-Veterinary program. While viewing your college page and softball stats, I’ve noticed that one of your pitchers will have graduated by my graduating year, and the other will be a senior. You built the program up so much since you got hired in 1995 and I would love to be part of it.
From this class, I have learned to work with other people, including students and adults, as well as leading a team, creating ideas, and problem
Because all students should have the right to an equal education, ELL’s should have equal access to the same resources that other students have. The whole school should be on board with welcoming, supporting, and making the ELL student’s transition easier (Rance-Roney, 34). Teachers can also make a global community classroom, by doing so, it will create a culture rich environment inviting ELL’s and educating their peers on other cultures. Teachers can also adopt a dual curriculum for the ELL students that support their second language development but also teaches them the required standards (Rance-Roney,
The assigned readings and the instructions in the curriculum continue to aid me in reaching my outcomes. Interaction with the students in the discussion thread and guidance from my mentors and instructor has decreased some of the problems that may occur during the final
I am writing this letter to support Katie Kruger in her application to medical school. I taught Katie during the Summer 2017 semester in Anatomy & Physiology II, as a part of her pre-med studies. While it is difficult to assess a student based from a single semester of coursework, work ethic becomes apparent during the fast paced summer courses. Katie was able to master the course material well and performed at the top of the class on all exams and assignments. It is apparent that Katie is able to succeed in the academic environment and apply this in a clinical setting, which is a skill needed to successfully complete medical school.
I also address Pluralism 3 (Students implement a range of instructional approaches and strategies that are needed to educate diverse learners in a variety of contexts) by using multiple strategies, such as leveled readings, strategic instructional groupings, and the written conversation approach to teach this
I am writing to express my interest in the department chair position at Payette High School for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. Obtaining this position will allow me to assist my colleagues and help implement changes to keep Payette High School on the path of improvement and positive changes that we have started to see this previous year. I feel I am qualified for this position for several reasons. I am passionate about making Payette High School the best school it can possibly be.
Few of the courses I have taken include physical anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Consequently, I have been able to take a lot away from the courses besides the subject matter. Through these classes I have been able to form life-long bonds with my professors who have presented me with opportunities outside of the classroom to get closer with my interest. For instance, my psychology professor provided me the opportunity to observe a hypnotherapy session to fully understand its effects on the brain. Overall, by taking these courses I believe I am able to paint a picture of who I am, and that is a student who is willing to go out and use his resources to the
I made fluency in Spanish a goal for my time at college, and this led me to participate in programs that matched me with conversation partners from the Parish of St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill, declare a Hispanic Studies minor, and study abroad for a summer in Barcelona while living with a host
College teachers should encourage people to engage in group discussions because it helps the student’s social skills. Another example that group discussions are useful is that because when they graduate college, they can go to the outside world and have a job. Jobs are created by in which people will be working in groups. When college teachers help students engage in group discussions, they are helping these students become a better person and help them prepare for the outside world. College teachers should encourage group discussions to show that it can improve a student’s social skill.
The purpose of group learning and development is to ensure that all learning styles are catered for and the ultimate goal of sharing knowledge is achieved. When using a group to deliver something new each individual can call on a fellow participant to confirm understanding. 1.2 Explain why delivery of learning and development must reflect group dynamics When delivering to a group it is important to consider, what is the normal behaviour within the group? Who plays what role?
Cooperative learning model is an active process where students work in small teams/groups, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Students have opportunities to actively participate in their learning, question and challenge each other, share and discuss their ideas, and adopt their learning. Ross and Smyth (1995) describe successful cooperative learning tasks as intellectually demanding, creative, open-ended, and involve higher order thinking tasks. In this model, it is essential to create a positive climate where interpersonal skills can be promoted so that positive emotions will be fostered among learners. Cooperative learning also helps the learners to feel empowered and respected to prepare them to face real
Learners are placed on different levels and they can progress to English as a Second Language programs at different ESL colleges. LINC classes are offered at different locations and this assessment is designed for a class of fifteen learners in a school located in a community
Although a high degree of challenge is needed to keep the students interested, students will soon give up on the challenge and begin to misbehave or become involved in activities not relating to the class work. I ensured in my lesson plan that the students were not going to fall victim to this. While planning out my lesson I ensured that the material I was going to teach was hard enough to challenge the students, yet not
