If it wasn’t already enough sending soldiers out into the battle field. School should be one of the safest places in which one’s son/daughter can get an education, make long lasting memories and graduating starting the next chapter of their lives. No parent should be worried sending their son/daughter, however it has become a concern. “On April 20, 1999, two teens went on a shooting spree at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide” (History). If they were able to obtain lethal weapons to harm others then anyone can have access to assault weapons. Many families lost their children. I can’t imagine losing my son or daughter to something tragic as this.
From High School, Nightclub, to Elementary schools being targeted by assault weapons is not a wake up call for the gun industries to ban the usage and sales of guns, then what is? Another tragedy would have to be a church that was unexpectedly targeted by a man who came in and took innocent lives due to his different beliefs. According to the Washington Post, “Roof killed not one person, but nine, and “he killed them because of the color of their skin” (Zapotosky). This man already knew what he wanted to do, he took innocent lives due to their differences. If racism isn’t enough already, the usage of an assault weapon in a church should definitely be a wake up call.
Therefore, assault weapons should be banned and not allowed to be purchased unless background checks have been made. It is crucial to know that many lives have been taken due to gun violence. The more we say yes to guns being allowed the more yes, we are saying for people’s lives to be taken away. Guns are not toys and those who used it to harm others, already know by using a weapon to harm another is
Banning the assault weapons is just a waste of time because society will continue to do what they do best. It is pleasant to say, the banning of assault weapons will most definitely reduce crime rates. Numbers might not make a drastic difference, but you will be able to see the difference in society. After all of our information we gathered, we can infer assault weapons are very harmful.
When the criminal is finally arrested, there a dozens of people who have been killed, injured, or fatally injured. All because of one man with a gun. Do you really want your life to be at risk because there is no law banning assault weapons? Do you want to walk down the hallway in fear of someone coming at you with a gun? According to an article from the Washington Post, written by Christopher Ingraham, the president/founder of a public opinions research, the ban on assault weapons lapsed, or expired, in 2004.
Yes is really needed to have a new assault weapons ban because that kind of guns are creating to much destruction, this kind of guns are too powerful for the public use, so is needed to regulate them. Also it will bring many advantages like a better control on the use of these guns, a more accurate regulation on the people who sell and purchase all these guns, make the communities feel safe on the places the live and it is really important, give better ways to the law for fight crime, it help them to protect people more easily, and finally and really important it will give to the government a better appearance in front of its country so, is needed to create a new assault weapons ban as soon as
There’s no point in banning all sorts of guns at this point in time and everyone should know how to use this “self-defence” weapon efficiently. You can place a gun, a knife or a bat all side by side, none of them are going to do anything until someone picks them up to use them! The tragic shooting at Newtown reminded us not only of the need for gun control but also mental health support. From the day each individual graduates from this seven-day training period, every child will be required to carry assault rifles at all times of the day, whether it be in school, at the mall, or at home, in order to ensure the best protection. However, I am not an unreasonable person.
According to the FBI crime report of 2011, “Handguns were used in 6,220 of the 12,664 homicides reported. Rifles accounted for 323 homicides, with knives and other unnamed firearms making up most of the rest.” (why gun groups 7). Rifles should not be banned from american citizens. Assault rifles stop crime acts.
I think that attacks such as the Las Vegas Shooting are so common these days because gun control isn 't strict enough to prevent them from happening. At this point, even mentally unstable individuals such as Stephen Paddock are allowed to get guns. Even though background checks are performed to see if the person is part of criminal activity or anything like that, they still shouldn 't have the authority to purchase them because you never know whether or not they 'll take advantage of their weapons. Stephan Paddock, for example, passed the background checks but later converted his gun into a machine gun and shot many innocent people at the country festival. If gun control was more strict, shootings like this wouldn 't happen in the first
Gun Control: Assault Weapons Should be Banned in America In the past decade there have been many mass shootings which sparked a nationwide debate on the ban on assault weapons. Assault weapons are Semiautomatic weapons that are usually used in the military due to their advanced features. The difference between a Semiautomatic weapon and a regular pistol is that semiautomatic guns reload automatically and can fire consistently (Assault Weapons). Majority of Americans argue that Assault Weapons should be banned nationwide because of the amount of mass shootings caused by Assault weapons.
Gangsters might be gone ,but criminals are still around and they use assault weapons for their preference of mass murdering. Assault weapons should be banned. Assault weapons are far more dangerous than other guns. They shoot nearly a thousand bullets in a few seconds. This makes them more deadly than several handguns or other firearms that are not automatic.
A nonprofit group that attempts to prevent gun violence called “Everytown for Gun Safety,” released a statement about school shootings. The organization claimed that the school shooting at “[Marjory Stoneman Douglas High] is the 18th school shooting in the U.S. in 2018.’” (Cox and Rich). In less than three months, there have been eighteen school shootings. This shows that schools are no longer a safe environment.
Guns need to be strictly controlled to fulfill the promise that was made to all of us, protection under all
But what should be done about assault weapons? There should be no reason for homeowners and everyday citizens to own such things as an AR-15 or a Machine Gun. Assault weapons should not be permitted in the US. The majority of assault weapons that are used for these shootings are acquired legally by shooters. In some of the most recent major attacks, “killers in Las Vegas and Orlando attacks… walk into gun shops and legally purchase assault weapons” (Ingraham).
The definition of an assault rifle is muddy, as avid gun owners tend to disagree with the term as it’s used. Most say that assault rifles should only be defined as fully automatic military-style rifles (Goode), but for ease of understanding, let’s assume that they are what most of the public refers to them as- semi/fully automatic weapons. From the years 1982-2012, 99 of the weapons used in mass shootings were semi automatic handguns or rifles (Follman). In the Las Vegas shooting, where one man killed 58 and injured over 800, local police found 18 assault weapons in his hotel room (Alsup). This, coupled with America’s history of mass shootings, is a justifiable reason to at least bring up a
In more recent news, this past month we witnessed yet another mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Nicholas Cruz walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and killed 17 people. He used and AR-15 style assault rifle to carry out the
Aren’t you tired of hearing on the news that someone has died behind a gun incident. Eighty eight point eight per one-hundred people or about two hundred seventy million guns which is highest total per capita number in the world. Twenty-two percent of Americans own one or more guns thirty percent men and twelve percent women. Gun control needs to be more improved in order to save lives. I think that they should be stricter because people think that laws do not need to be stricter because that means more trouble if someone tries to defend themselves.
Guns have no role in our country schools. Schools and colleges are places of education. Students should be free to learn in an environment away from every day violence. The catastrophes that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Columbine High School, and Virginia Tech. confirm the penetrating conclusion guns have in our nation’s schools. Violence on campus has Students, Parent, and University Staff all concerned and looking for preventative measures.
