To begin, homework causes stress and anxiety. Apa.org says that when you have stress you concentrate less and you don’t want to learn. In an article about stress symptoms they stated that stress affects your overall being, by how you feel and how you act. Also they said that less sleep can cause disease. In my past experiences when I get more sleep I feel ready for the day and when I am ready for the day I work harder in everything I do including school. Finally, in the article, Homework Can Have Negative Effects Should Schools Ban it, they say that when there is a constant amount of homework and when there is two or more hours of homework that it is linked to sleep
Lack of sleep can cause short term effects like headaches or mood changes, but it can also contribute to more major issues like heart disease or high blood pressure. It can also impact memory and attention span, which causes problems with attending school. These effects can be extremely harmful and can put many students at risk of health problems. Semuels interviewed a student who has a particularly busy schedule. Her say starts off at 3pm with class, and she continued to work through the night and into the next day, “That afternoon she attended a parent-teacher conference, capping off more than 24 hours straight of work and school with no sleep.”

Teachers consider homework to help students better understand the subject matter. Teachers also assume the homework so the students will learn back at home. But did you know that giving homework too much and too much is not good. Here are some reasons why teachers should not give homework to students.
Down with Homework I agree with Alfie Kohn, when he states the strain that enormous amount of homework causes. But I disagree with his opinion in completely eliminating homework. We cannot eliminate homework because that will destroy the bridge that keeps students connected to their books after they leave school. I do however agree with Kohn in the recent, increase in homework children are getting.
Why Students Shouldn’t Have Homework There are around 365 days in a year, and in a school year, there are around 180 days. From the beginning of the school year to the end, the most common thing that students least like, is homework. Coming home after a long day of school, then having responsibilities to do at home, not to mention some students have after school activities which take up around 2 hours if not more. Also, even though kids say that they get stressed out most of them just want to get out of doing their homework. Not only this, but, they will get smarter or just stay smart. They don’t have to get smarter with every piece of homework they do, but at least they won’t fall behind on their work.

There was also a 58% increase in suicide attempts. Teens that get around six hours a night are three times more likely to suffer from depression. Another negative impact from poor sleep are long term effects for a young person 's physical health. Bad sleep can lead to obesity and diabetes for teens and high schoolers who already skimp on sleep have a higher risk of diabetes in the future. As an already obese teen, losing sleep can also increase the risk of getting diabetes.
Students tend to stay up for homework due to the fact that they usually don 't’ have enough time. Not getting enough sleep will increase the development of poor health making students incapable of learning. “Some of the most serious potential problems associated with chronic sleep deprivation are high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure or stroke. Other potential problems include obesity, depression and lower sex drive” (Brain Team and Spine). Just by that, homework can ruin personal lives by taking what students need like enough sleep.
The clock strikes 12:00 am and students are trying to finish their pile of homework due in the morning. Students are rushing to finish in order to get ready for the next day. On Wednesdays kids may have religion and other things like sports to do and when people have a lot of homework like Brayden and Prescott have to deal with homework from Religion and School it can be stressful.
