The special effects of a movie can be an important aspect to completing the film but it is important to make sure they are integrated properly into a film and that the effects are credible to the audience. “The real measure of an effects success has become how well the effect is integrated into the storyline of the film.” (Petrie & Boggs, 2012) Beetlejuice is a film about two recently dead ghost who employ the services of Beetlejuice in order to get rid of the family who have taken over their home. These visual effects are very effectively employed in the film. They are an integrated part of the film, without these special effects, the film would not have the same impact on the audience. “In the best film, the visuals create the …show more content…
The film also uses a blue screen in creating the world through the door where a sand worm is present. The sand worm is also a special effect with the use of a puppet to create the worm. Delia’s artwork that comes alive and wraps the parents are an example of stop motion. These are all effective special effects from the film and are integrate parts of the film. In Beetlejuice the special effects that are used are believable to the story and also essential to the credibility of the film. “Too often, however, elaborate visual effects do not just serve to enhance the story but become the focus of the film.” (Petrie & Boggs, 2012) The special effects do not overshadow the characters but instead enhance them and creates a believable world to the audience. If the audience did not believe in the special effects than the whole film would destroyed, the special effects are an important
The film A Scanner Darkly uses animation and make it looks like a different world. When Freck was hallucinating after taking substance D, he imagined bugs were crawling all over him. The scene overexaggerated the size of the insects, which made the scene really what it is. Without it we would not get visible representation on how dangerous Substance D was.
A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing”, said George Lucas after completing the Star Wars trilogy. Most of the special effects in the original film were detailed models that were designed by professional artists. Although models are
Sure the last act has a mixture of CGI and Practical thrown in, but by and large the film just relies on tension. The not seeing being what scary. Though this abandon during the last section of the film, when the film quickly devolves into a creature feature. A good one
Tim Burton uses many different cinematic techniques to achieve very specific effects in his movies. The most important cinematic techniques that he uses to create his unique style are Non-Diegetic sound, lighting, eye level, and zoom. These techniques that can be seen in the films Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, and Corpse Bride, create the effects of sadness, dark moments, express the feeling of other without telling. He uses Non-Diegetic sound when he puts a song, he uses sad songs, happy songs, and more to show the feeling of the character, to give us like a hint of something that is going to happen, if it’s going to be bad or sad. For instance, in the film “Beetlejuice,” Burton uses high-key lighting in the interior of the Maitlan’s house to give it a comfortable, cozy feel that reflects the personality of the family; however, after that family dies in a traffic accident and the Deetz's move in and “renovate” the home, the lighting becomes much darker. This contrast makes the house seem cold and unsettling, matching the personality of the new family. This technique is exemplified by the scene in which the Deetzes host a dinner party for out-of-town guests. The action alternates between the brightly lit attic where the ghosts of the Maitlans reside in safety to the gloomy dining room of the main house where the nasty, selfish Deetzes live out their cold, heartless lives.
The crop duster scene, one of many notable sequences from this movie, uses: lighting, color, camera angles and distances, shot duration, continuity editing, and mise-en-scéne to provide suspense, desperation, and isolation to the character onscreen, and make the viewers feel the same offscreen. The motion and appearance of the creature highly appears to be rendered by computer imagery. As a result from the three videos, the audience can become disgusted and irritated once they acquire the huge amounts of CGI used throughout the documentary. According to Oscar nominated producer and director, Christian Nolan, Hollywood depends too heavily on CGI, stating that,” however sophisticated your CGI is, if it’s been created from no physical elements and you haven’t shot anything, it’s going to feel like animation.” This is exactly what goes through the audience’s mind when they view the final scene of the beached mermaid striking at the boys. Then another intriguing imperfection during the same recording is the date, which goes back to 2004, where video recording technology for cellphones was not introduced.
The animated tale Gnomeo & Juliet is a children oriented movie which adapted from William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy work, Romeo & Juliet. The story is introduced to the audience by a little gnome reading a prologue on a stage with a lighting focuses on him, saying "The story you are about to see has been told before. A lot. And now we are going to tell it again. But different.
O Brother Where Art Thou? is a film that will take you on a perilous journey with Ulysses Everett McGill and his simpleminded cohorts. Throughout his life in making films, Tim Burton has shown his unique talent and vision. He proceeds taking advantage of the cinematic techniques; lighting, sound, and camera movements creating a certain mood/tone. These three techniques are used numerous of times for the duration of each film. Although, many various emotions are constructed, there are feelings that anyone may connect to. Tim Burton is a successful filmmaker and has inspired many with the use of his cinematic techniques.
The final film technique Tim Burton uses is sounds he uses. The most popular type of sound techniques is the non-diegetic sounds. In the 1989 Batman film, Tim Burton uses a ton of non-diegetic music. In multiple scenes in the movie, often combat scenes, there is dramatic music playing in the background to enhance the tension in the audience. During the scene in Charlie and the chocolate Factory when Charlie won the last golden ticket and he was running home there was non-diegetic happy and exciting music playing in the background.
In this technological age, use of machines and systems is rapidly replacing more traditional means. Take for instance, computer generated imagery, otherwise known as CGI (insert cited definition here). Computer generated imagery is prevalent in a vast amount of the visuals we humans are exposed to, regardless of whether we realize it or not. It has had such a tremendous impact on different industries, such as design, manufacturing, entertainment, business and education. Under the category of entertainment, an example of use of computer generated imagery is that of its use in the video production industry, which includes film, television, music videos and visual advertisements.
