The special effects of a movie can be an important aspect to completing the film but it is important to make sure they are integrated properly into a film and that the effects are credible to the audience. “The real measure of an effects success has become how well the effect is integrated into the storyline of the film.” (Petrie & Boggs, 2012) Beetlejuice is a film about two recently dead ghost who employ the services of Beetlejuice in order to get rid of the family who have taken over their home. Special effects play a large role in creating this film. There are many special effects in the film Beetlejuice. They include stop motion, prosthetic makeup, blue screen and puppetry. These visual effects are very effectively employed in the film. The film also uses a blue screen in creating the world through the door where a sand worm is present. The sand worm is also a special effect with the use of a puppet to create the worm. Delia’s artwork that comes alive and wraps the parents are an example of stop motion. These are all effective special effects from the film and are integrate parts of the film. In Beetlejuice the special effects that are used are believable to the story and also essential to the credibility of the film. “Too often, however, elaborate visual effects do not just serve to enhance the story but become the focus of the film.” (Petrie & Boggs, 2012) The special effects do not overshadow the characters but instead enhance them and creates a believable world to the audience.
