Dental Assisting is an often overlooked, yet an essential field of medical science. From straightforward cleanings to complex procedures such as root canals, dental assistants play a pivotal role in ensuring our oral health and hygiene. A great dental assistant must not only possess impressive techniques but also deeply connect with their patients on both a professional and personal level, something only a few can master with. One of the negative challenges is dentists are more likely to suffer health problems, according to the article “Dentists appear to be subjected to an even higher risk of adverse health effects, including MS due to their lesser physical activity. Research studies have reported the dentists to be physically inactive and prone to obesity, due to the physical nature of the work and long working/clinical hours continuing from morning hospital work to the evening clinics” (Alshiddi 2). Another major challenge faced by dental assistants is work-related stress a research stated “Such multitasking demands often lead to work-related stress, which show that stress among dental assistants originates from issues such as dependence on the dentist, lack of control, the routine nature of the work feeling undervalued by the dentist, lack of recognition, low income, and heavy workload” (Uzriel 3). However it is important for dental assistants to be aware of legal restrictions surrounding the job in other countries. “Keep in mind, just because you used to perform a function in one state, you do not automatically have the right to execute that procedure in another state. As a matter of fact, that can be considered “practicing dentistry without a license” and charged as a felony” (Tija 1). Despite the challenges, being a dental assistant can be a fulfilling and rewarding career. By staying informed and taking care of their physical and mental health, dental assistants can overcome the negative challenges and continue to make a positive impact on the oral health of their

As a student pursuing dental assisting, I am dedicated to embodying the core values of service, team player, and innovation in my work. To me, service means putting the needs of others before mine and going above and beyond to provide satisfaction and comfort for others. When I become a dental assistant, I will strive to create a warm and welcoming environment that calms any existing nerves the patient may have. I would always have a kind and approachable demeanor and take the time to hear any concerns or questions the patient may have. Service is an important aspect of life to me.

After reading Million Dollar Dentistry by Gray Kadi, I learned that the traditional way of dentistry practice is stressful and you are leaving so much money on the table if you continue to practice dentistry the old fashion way. Also I learned that if you use Mr. Kadi suggestion you will be living a happier and stress-free life. One of the biggest take-away I got after reading this book is “when everyone is responsible for everything, no one is truly responsible for anything.” I really like this concept, it gives everyone in their roles accountability and incentives to bring in new/returning patients. For example, the treatment coordinator he/she is responsible for closing the case after the patient comes out of hygiene.
Dental assistants support dental specialists or dentists in carrying out dental routine. A dental assistant is not the real dental operator that performs on patients but only an assistant to the licensed dentist. Aspirants of dental assisting career need to attend a dental assisting program at either college or tech school so as to acquire a diploma, certificate or degree. The duration of the program depends on the type of certification targeted. The program comprises both theory and practical.

Dental assistants provide their patients a way to stay healthy within oral activities while also providing general happiness to a patient. Assistants work hand in hand with a dental hygienist observing, supporting, and caring for the patients need, whenever they need them. They work with tools, sit and stand long periods per day, and work in one of the dirtiest places on the human body, the mouth (Summary). Dental Assistants practice safety measures, just like any other doctor would, to assure the safety of themselves, along with the safety of their patients and organs that are being worked on from infectious diseases.

Most children would reply by saying a superhero, a professional basketball player, a model, etc. My response was always, someone who can make a difference in an individual's life. Finding out how I was going to do that exactly was challenging until I reached my junior year in high school.
Ever since I was young, dentistry had sparked my interest for my career. Dentistry appeals to me chiefly because I had always wanted to be involved in a profession where I can help people.
