Moore also tells the story of the little girl shot by one of her classmates and how his home life could have contributed to the shooting. The incident occurred in Buell Elementary School, in Flint, Michigan, where 6 year old Dedrick Owens shot and killed his classmate Kayla Rolland. The boy comes from an unstable household since his mother his never home because she works 2 jobs provided by the welfare-to-work program. At the time, the boy stayed at his uncle’s house since his mother was working two jobs and could not attend to the children, and she was also being evicted from her house.
