The last time her bullies assaulted her it went too far. “They knocked me out because someone kicked me in the head. They robbed me and I was quite badly sexually assaulted as well. For hours I couldn’t remember a thing. The next morning I was bruised all over and had big lumps on my head. My memory still isn’t clear. I just get little flashbacks” (The Story of Childhood p.197-198). Laura has developed many mental disorders from the abuse like anxiety and depression. In my childhood, I experienced trauma that had occurred multiple times. I was sexually abused by an older boy in my neighborhood. At the time, I was about nine years old and he was around four to five years older than me. He was supposed to be the one watching all of us younger kids when we were out playing in the neighborhood, the moms trusted him. Behind our houses, there was what we called “the woods”, basically it was just a large patch of trees with a little creek running through it.
When deciding what program would best suit my past experiences and future goals, I put a great deal of thought into what has brought me to where I am today. While I have had several defining moments in my career and life, it is fair to say that my exposure to the criminal justice system while at the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office has shaped the way I think today. Most of my time with the office was spent in the Child Protection Unit working as a paralegal on child abuse cases, as well as reviewing the “preventable” deaths of any child under the age of 18 in Middlesex County. Additionally, I had opportunities to assist on many homicide investigations and trials.

Madison Rummel I feel that if it is our job to report it, we have to report. Kids or adolescents have to understand that if you go to someone about child abuse they have to tell someone about it. But I would make sure that child knows that i would be on there side and make sure nothing would happen to them and they can trust me on helping them on this issue. That's also can keep away the negative feeling the parent or client might have on the issue. I would make sure the parents know that i am their child's counselor and i wouldn't do anything to them that would harm them but protect them.
