The bus creaked and groaned, hardly comfortable and relaxing. I had woken up with high spirits, the sky clear and blue, ready for the promising day ahead of me, only to be dampened by a series of unfortunate and annoying events that included almost being late for the bus and waiting for people to finish packing. My mother, sister, aunt, and her two sons Leo and Alan, along with me, were on our way to Chinatown to board a less bumpy bus to Philadelphia to visit my mom’s friend, her two sons Brian and Evan, and two nieces Elaine and some person. We got off at Division Street where we bought juicy fruits that we ate along the way across several blocks where were then bought tickets for the bigger bus. The waiting took forever and every one of us took turns using the restroom. During the wait, I talked to …show more content…
This was solved when the door to the bedroom opened slowly and Leo crawled into the room and said, “You’re awake.” Minutes passed and we felt in it was inevitable. We brushed out teeth, got dressed, and went down to the first floor. Our mothers were in the kitchen, chattering away, and we sneaked down to the basement where it was empty. We played with darts, trying to hit specific parts of Elmo’s face, and I rummaged through the collection of books that they had. When our parents finally called us, it was past seven and every one was awake. Our mothers told Brian and me to make pizza for breakfast and told the other children to go downstairs and watch television, which I thought, was very unfair. Brian and I took out flour, salt, baking powder, water, oil, sauce, cheese, and the essential equipment that included measuring spoons, a batter, and some sort of portable oven. We dumped flour, water, oil, salt, and baking powder together and mixed it with the batter. Finished, we rolled the elastic blob into a circle and just then, Brian had a brilliant and stupid
According to Anderson, Vancouver's European society perceived the Chinese settlement based on the culture of race and created a social concept known as "Chinatown". Even though there was no accurate evidence that Chinese people were somehow different or dangerous for the rest of the Vancouver, the authorities and researchers believed that they were. There were several reasons why White Canadians were racist towards Chinese population. Chinese is described by Anderson as "a racially visible and culturally distinct minority", which made White Canadians believe that they are different. The article proves that there is no significant biological or genetical difference between races, however since Chinese were racially visible, White Canadians
Through all the disturbance, brights lights, and traffic, a bus drove past and stopped. She looks at it and seems to have recognized those numbers before. She quickly scrambles in her purse and reaches for the receipt that she was given at the airport. It seemed to have been the same exact number that appeared on the bus. The doors of the bus creaked open and the bus driver motioned for her to go onto the bus.

"Are you reading this? If you are, then you have woken. You have been in a coma for 23 years. Everything you've ever seen, felt, heard or tasted was a hallucination. Your friends weren't real.
When I was eight, my family could not believe what I was doing to my nanny on the way to Gatlinburg. My family and I begin to scavenge our belongings to place in my mother 's car, my anxiety and excitement begins to rise. We all start to swarm in the vehicle and to my recollection, I notice the sun beginning to ascend over the horizon. My mother stomped on the gas pedal to accelerate the car forward out of our driveway onto the road. In the car, my parents occupy the front driver and passenger seats, my brother sits next to the window behind my mother and I sit behind my father, which leaves the middle seat for my nanny to take up.
The chief of police I am slaving for wants me to write in this journal. I’m not a sissy, but there’s nothing wrong with that either. I had no choice in the matter because I was her last option as a field agent. Jerry was on family leave, Michael was investigating a child abduction case and here I was, alone with my boss in our lonely, yet homey, police station.
California, the state everyone believes to be a lush beautiful state. However, what people believe to be a golden state is in fact an illusion. In “Chinatown,” Reisner disillusions the reader about the underlying problem California has with water. California is, in fact, a semi desert, and the lush greenery that is commonly seen on postcards and TV shows are only achieved by transporting water from hundreds of miles away. Reisner stated that California is the “only state with a truly seasonal rainfall pattern” because of the Pacific High.
It was just going to happen so I waited for my number to be called,” he
When I stepped outside the school, the cool wind gently brushed my face. I walked to my bus, strutted up the bus stairs and took my seat in the far back where no one could annoy me. The bus ride seemed like forever watching the city go by, I was the second to last stop, but I liked being last it gave me more time to do homework on the bus. The bus came to halt in my neighborhood, and I walked off the bus towards the large house at the end of the street, the house was a massive, modern structure. I slowly walked in the house and plopped down on the white comfy couch.
It was a hot sunny day in the old Ray Valley. The roads were active that day, and so were the railroads. I stood on the baking, concrete platform; looking at my train ticket. I was deciding which train I would take. Before making a final decision, I checked my bag.
I was freaking out if I missed the bus Jesse would be waiting by himself for ages, I had to run full pelt to the bus stop. I got there just in time, Id be lying if I said I wasn’t heaving for air by the time I got on... Embarrassing I thought as I waved my pass to the driver and panted all the way down the back to my normal seat before I realising it was taken… “Ummmm why are you on my bus” I said with my head tilted to the left Kristen sighed “I obviously moved houses nutty Nina, I live on Beaumont St now” “Oh that’s the same street as me” I say in disbelief shocked to be having a half normal conversation with Kristen and well also shocked to be talking to anyone at
Everything was going smoothly that night until dinner time. Mom had left baked pasta in the fridge for us to eat. All we had to do was put it in the oven for half an hour. It may have seemed very easy to do but my grandma forgot the last thing my mom had said before leaving.
My mother had made eggs and toast for breakfast. Me and my brother ate as fast as we could because we wanted to see our favorite show SpongeBob. As we turned on the T.V. the news channel was on from the night before. On the news was breaking news about a serial killer. It showed 3 dead bodies the whole family was dead and the kid was missing.
Hayden Zeller 2048623 Seminar Race/Power/Resistance Final Paper Assignment Navigating the Complexity of Chinatown Chicago must be understood as a multiethnic city; a city that harnesses a diverse group of individuals and neighborhoods. Dating back from the 1850s, it has been known for being a melting pot of cultures, races, and nationalities. One neighborhood in particular, Chinatown, has a unique history and culture and has developed it into one of the largest concentrations of Chinese Americans in the United States.
This was an experience much different from the rest of our journey, an unforgettable experience that opened my eyes to the world and the struggles that still exist in it today. “And make sure to leave all valuables on the bus,” said our tour guide, Nicholas. Throughout our entire journey, this was the first time we had been forewarned about the possible dangers of a destination. Nicholas told us that the people of the city were desperate- unemployment rates were well over 20% and were only increasing over time- and did whatever they could to provide for their families.
