“How in the world did Colin Cushman end up as an athletic director?” you might ask. My stepdad Colin went through rigorous classes at Montana State from 1984 to 1988. He has successfully gotten a degree in math, and a minor in chemistry. Young Colin who once had gracious, full hair, studies chemical engineering for two years. During this time, Colin began coaching high schooler’s, which immediately caught his interest. At the age of 22, Colin began his first year teaching middle schooler’s at Fairhaven Middle School. The sun way high in the sky, and Colin assumed he could simply skip a day of work and have some fun. Reality settled in and Colin realized that he could not miss a day of work. To this day, he explains this as his big “it sucks to be a grown-up moment”. Colin faced a large adjustment from his home life in Boseman, to Bellingham. He explained how in his old town, they were never given a snow day break from …show more content…
His preferred way to study for a test was to cram. He said with emphasis he’d actually cram so much, that sometimes he’d get no sleep the night before a test. This may sound like agony to the average being, but this 26 year old believed it was all worth it. After class, Colin spent his time with friends doing intermural sports. Basketball, tennis, golf, skiing, you name it, Colin played it. He played so many recreational games. He was like a multi-sport athlete at Montana State. Colin spent much of his free time with his fraternity in College. Many laughs and memories came along with those in his brotherhood, especially considering he was president. With all this freedom, college forced Colin to look out for himself. A major change he faced was being independent when he got sick. Colin explained how had to simply suck it up, and make himself feel better or else he’d look like a beggar off the streets for weeks on
As the son of a tough-nosed football coach, Favre demonstrated a gift in this other sport as well. Big and strong, Brett, who was coached by his father in high school, played quarterback throughout his years at Hancock North Central. Favre’s talent drew little notice or praise from college scouts. Favre chose the University
After the yearlong ordeal of barely surviving, a few weeks of relaxing and being well fed will be blissful to the Coates Academy kids. All the children have to do is sit back and relax. Clearly, not needing to work to survive removes stress from the kid’s lives, which further shows how much of a paradise they inhabit. Next, the teenagers

He tried to console as well as convince both his parents and himself that Luke was in no danger but failed miserably. His parents’ lives eventually became fully consumed with thoughts of his sick brother and so, they made the decision to ship him off to England. This action, however, did not make Colin give up on his dream, it only drove him further into an unrealistic world where he was the hero and the cure for cancer was in reach. A change in Colin’s personality began to occur after attempting and failing many impossible missions to cure his brother.
His “sharply split opinions” signaled to the audience that his essay could go either way. By starting off with his primary research, he gained the reader’s attention enough that he or she would continue reading, despite their own opinions on the topic. His purpose for writing was driven by his numerous ordinary, but detrimental, experiences with college athletes as a student and as an educator. One sentence that reveals his purpose is, “It’s sad to see bright young athletes knowingly compromise their potential and settle for much less education than they deserve.”
“If you wish to continue to grow intellectually, you need to work harder right now than you have ever before. Otherwise, you risk wasting your potential”(pg.10) this is a quote said by Colin’s father. Talk about uptight. Colin has always been pushed. ’ Markers’ (his dad’s word for ‘goals’) were constantly on his mind.
In his essay, “Falling Down Is Part of Growing up”, Henry Petroski explains how all humans experience failure throughout their lives. The author compares nursery rhymes with the evolution of the human body and how they evolve as they grow older. He also describes how kids don’t realize the purpose or the meaning of things, but as they grow older, they realize the purpose of things and life in general. He also explains how failure is part of life and the inspiration of great innovations. Henry emphases how past failures in life are the reason for future success.
Grades, priorities, and school have all been big priorities for kids in school. Colin is not much different from them. Colin Singleton in the book “An Abundance of Katherines”by:John Green was raised basically the same way as everyone else. There was always something different about him, His parents set the expectations for him at an early age so he was raised in the right way. His parents raised him to be a child prodigy but then he gradually let himself go.
Colin Powell went down in history as one of the greatest to serve our country. After all, his courage and love for our country made how he is remembered today. Still, everyone wants to be like Colin. And yet, he did it all by this one saying. “What I really wanted was to do the best I could every single day.

Likewise, individuals must recognize the innocence and virtue in life though it may be obscure. As Johnny describes it, “When you’re a kid everything’s new, dawn. It’s just when you get used to everything that it’s day” (Hinton
And Mr. Keating fascinated them by saying things like “Seize the day” (DPS) and “Make your life Extraordinary”(DPS). This shows how much Keating loves his job and wants the kids to be engaged in what they are learning because he is different in his teaching style and wants the kids to succeed in
The transition from the fantasy world of children to the adult world is “the beginning of sadness” (24). Although it is quite unusual to think that a ten-year-old would think this way, he recognizes that this transition
