It is noted in the article that those living in rural areas have a greater risk for traumatic injury, infections and chronic illness than those in the metropolitan area (Kroneman, Verheij, Tacken, & van der Zee, 2010). With that being said, the need for medical services are needed, but they are not always provided. I myself have never considered the disadvantage that individuals may have based off of where they live. Often times we don’t think about issues that do not pertain to us. In the city I live in there are anywhere between 10-20 clinics that provide Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Physical Therapy alone. I am lucky to have options, but until I took the time to read this article, I did not realize that others were not as fortunate. Expanding health care to the Internet is not only helpful to practitioners and patients, but students as well. Those attending programs in secluded areas may find it difficult complete fieldwork assignments, which is a critical part of becoming a certified therapist. This article also addresses the opportunity for students to uses telecommunication to complete their schooling via online. With the world and advancement of technology I find this whole concept to be amazing. It opens doors for so many people and uses it for something constructive and …show more content…

With the uberization of healthcare and telehealth we often feel overwhelmed by the push for telehealth. These results are not completely logically due to the fact of the unavailability there is of this technology, not all collegiate and youth programs are going to have access to telemedicine, making it not logical. One of the assignments for the Introduction to Occupational Therapy is to select an article and write a review about it. The article that seized my interest is “Starting a Private Practice: The First Steps” by Tara J. Glennon. In this response paper, I am going to discuss about how to start a private own business. My discussion will include the fate of small businesses in the United States. However, this effect will less likely to impact potential occupational therapy practice entrepreneurs because of the higher demand of occupational therapy, and therapists in the future.
. Another problem during the accreditation of Ayres work is she decided to use sensory integration as an isolated anomaly, rather than embedding it entirely in the context of Occupational therapy. Ayres main goals of her work was more based on what Occupational Therapy alone, can achieve, such as individuals can follow routines that are involved in daily life like, eating, sleeping getting ready, etc. Reseatchers trying to replicate the treatment developed a goal attainment scale, to help measure the effectiveness of studies. This was a breakthrough, allowing goals for the families and individuals and comparison across the wide array of people using this method.
My fieldwork instructor has advised me that I am doing great. I demonstrate effective communication, which is necessary to talk to nurses and certified nursing assistants. I was advised there is nothing that I should/could be doing differently now. An occupational therapy practitioner and cna both work on activities of daily living, self-care, and bathroom business.

Problem Identification Currently, the world faces a shortage of medical professionals as the population continues to increase and with more incidences of chronic illnesses. With the increased the cost of healthcare, telehealth offers an efficient tool for delivery of quality care. The problems that prompted the development of telehealth include: • Large population increase in the U.S. With a 20 percent estimated rise between years 2008 to 2030 (Hein, 2009). • The constraint in number of educated, trained as well as licensed healthcare professionals •rise in chronic diseases incidences globally, such as diabetes and heart failures •the obligation to offer quality care to the elderly, and the home-bound, as well as the physically disabled population
As a future occupational therapist, I have interest in use the complementary health approaches and integrative health (CHAIH). According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), the use of an integrative approach for health and wellness has grown within care settings across the United States, including hospitals, hospices, and military health facilities in the last 16 years (Scott,2015). Use the CHAIH turn the occupational therapist(OT) more versatile benefitting clients. Health and Wellness is one of the six key OT practice areas, and are outcomes that occur from OT intervention.
Volunteering at McKenna Farms Therapy Services I was able to observe pediatric occupational therapy sessions. Not only did I get to observe Occupational Therapy sessions, but I observed Hippotherapy sessions too. What I found so unique about McKenna Farms is that they had Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Occupational Therapist all together at one clinic. This allowed me to witness how the different types of therapy fit together and how the therapist would collaborate to find the best way to treat the children. My favorite part was finding ways to communicate with the kids.
The Impact of Technology on the Traditional Way of providing Professional Counselling Service Computers are incredibly fast, accurate and stupid: Humans are incredibly slow, inaccurate and Brilliant together they are powerful beyond imagination (Albert Einstein). Technology-assisted distance counselling for individuals, couples and groups involves the use of the telephone or computer to enable counsellors and clients to communicate at a distance when circumstance make this approach necessary or convenient. While face to face counselling for individuals, couples and groups involves synchronous interaction between and among counsellors and client using what is seen and heard in person to
Page 2 Occupational therapy treats people with physically, sensory or mental disabilities and helps them to be as independent as possible in their daily tasks. When talked about OT immediately people start thinking it has to be something about adults. But we neglect the fact that OT’s play a major role in children’s lives as well as the adults. Yes, the adults have more things to do daily than kids, but the kids have more energy and their main job is to play and learn. The OT’s can play a major role in enhancing the kids with their daily occupations’ which are playing and learning.
