Admiring the reputation of Princeton University, I decided to choose this place to continue my graduate study before entering the industry. I fully understand an exceptional academic performance is one of the characteristic that Princeton University is looking for in candidates. Therefore, after two years study in the South China University of Technology, I continue my academic life in the Pennsylvania State University. I acknowledged that receiving an education under an American education system would give me access to resources that I could never have in China. I determined the choice of the future and strived out my path to the Pennsylvania State University, where I achieved my 3.98 out of 4 GPA, since I always prioritize my academic achievement first. To stand out among the candidates, I decided to choose Economics as my major, specializing quantitative in and financial orientation, as well as two minors, …show more content…
The Liberal Arts college of Penn State offers the Alumni Mentor Program, where I met my mentor, Dr. Michele Gambera, who was a P.H.D student at Penn State. He guided me through the difficulties I had during life at Penn State. As an
International student, I met many difficulties that native students never met. Dr. Gambera was the one who helped me determine my goal when I was so lost and undecided about my future career. After In addition, he not only helped me revise my resume, but also gave me advice in choosing courses that would help me in my future career. I fully appreciate the importance of a guide who has been though the path and is willing to lead you. Without Dr. Gambera, I could never have reached the achievement I have now. Therefore, I would fully utilize the resources I have at Princeton University, and hopefully, be a resource to Princeton University, helping students having similar experience that I
My desire to help students in Mississippi stems from my personal experience as a student in Mississippi College. Through volunteering as a member of the Balancing The Deficit and engaging faculty and students who are native to the area, I had many interactions with Mississippians and saw the genuine kindness in them. Through those interactions, I learned to appreciate their hospitality and down-to-earth attitude. My affection toward people in Mississippi grew tremendously while in school, and I decided to serve the community after I graduate. I want to serve the community as a peer educator so that I can help teenagers in Mississippi develop good studying habits and help them find purpose and, more importantly, success in their studying
This is specifically through my experiences with my mentor, Dr. Winyoo Chowanadisai. Throughout the spring semester, we would speak about my academic and career goals, and my mentor provided great insight to my plans. As a researcher who has many siblings in the medical field, he was able to discuss the pre-med experience with me and provide clarity on how I could explore my career options and prepare for potential applications to graduate or medical school. Navigating my options for after graduation has been stressful for me this year, so a rewarding part of this experience was having a mentor to provide guidance and allow me to explore my options. Aside from the personal opinions that my mentor could provide, my experience in the lab also contributed to my thoughts on how I want to spend my
Because of my participation on a Trio program, I was inspired in choosing Sociology as my major, and reinforced to continue to strive for my dream of one day becoming a Doctor and in a slightly different way, enriching people’s lives just like they have done for me. Through Trio program I have gained most of my best friends, people whom I consider family and will always have a place in my heart. Trio Programs are special, they create the right environment for success, and they inspire, support, and enrich their student’s
For the past four years, I have maintained a conceptual continuity in my academic pursuit of quality work in the legal system. While in college I pursuit a criminal justice major with the intention to go to law school after graduating. I dreamed of becoming a lawyer since I was a young girl. However, during my senior year of college, I felt perplexed of my future, was not sure if I wanted to continue pursuing this old dream that I once thought it was my goal in life. Like most graduating seniors, I was not sure of what I wanted to do with my degree once I attain it.
Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
When getting into college first I had to find the college I wanted to attend. My counselor helped with this by providing campus tours and information about all of the colleges in the state of Wisconsin. After I found the college I would be attending the application process started. During this my counselor helped me in many ways. I was helped throughout the application paperwork in areas I didn’t understand or wasn’t sure of.
I chose to get a double major in Film and Media Production and Business Management. I chose Film because I have always loved movies. My love of movies was sparked when I was a little kid at the video store. I would plop in the VHS tape and watch movies all night. I chose a management degree because I believe producers are managers.
Since first setting foot on campus a year ago, I have found that Penn has always stood out in my search for the perfect university. Every aspect, from the flexible academics to its urban environment, to the diversity of the student body seems to readily match the setting in which I hope to immerse myself over the next four years. Academically, I hope to continue pursuing my interests in economics and business, international studies, and French. Unlike many other schools, Penn openly encourages such breadth of study, believing the skill sets developed through different subjects to be universally interdependent and pragmatic in the real world.
Mentors play a crucial role in people's lives, and I will need mentors just the same. I do not have the experience that they have, but from learning from them I may be able to learn what I need to
At Penn, I will continue pursuing my academic interests in business, psychology, and French. Penn gives students the freedom to choose multiple concentrations while also engaging in interdisciplinary studies. The unique feature that differentiates Penn is that the university offers such a breadth of study without sacrificing depth, a feature many other schools lack. While getting my bachelor of science in economics from Wharton, I will concentrate my studies on both finance and behavioral economics with a minor in consumer psychology while also enriching my cultural understanding of France by spending a semester of study abroad.
Choosing a college major is one of the most important decisions in a person’s life. The effect choosing a college major has on one’s life is much like a small ripple in the middle of a vast ocean. In the students senior year it is a simple seemingly inconsequential click of a button on an online application. But by the time this once meek ripple reaches the shore of the students’ life it has already transformed into a great tidal wave that has influenced their life every step of the way.
I also learned first-hand what is required to be successful in a graduate program; namely perseverance and an unbelievable work ethic. In Connecticut, I achieved my goal and have decided that I would like to study materials. Earlier this year I was ecstatic to be notified that the project I had worked on at UCONN was published in
As someone who does not have a background in business, it is important that I attend a business school with high-quality professors. I will heavily rely on Fuqua’s first-class faculty to help me prepare for solving the world’s most challenging problems, strategically and effectively, across all organizations. I strongly believe Fuqua’s faculty is capable of helping me achieve this goal. For example, Professor Shane encourages confidence in subject areas that I may not have otherwise had the courage to pursue beyond the fundamentals. Because of this, I plan to major in an area of personal and professional growth such as Accounting, Finance, or Financial
Unlike many other universities, the University of Pennsylvania possesses the resources for and encourages a diverse realm of study. Seeing how Penn supports the development of applied practical skills, I would participate in classes for a degree in Finance through Wharton while taking various courses in Spanish, German, and Chinese with anticipation to travel abroad to further hone my studies. Following four years of schooling, I would graduate with a top-class education which helped develop my foundation as an intellectual, able to apply core skills in any business or teamwork situation; by 2020, I would leave a proud alumni. Having always been a hands on learner, Wharton's
The people I thank for getting me to this place are my mentors Mr. Nadalen and Mr. Thomasser, for calling me to do something exciting and different. To continue on this adventure, I have to complete a five-year program and graduate with a degree. If it wasn’t for my mentors I would probably still not know what I wanted to do in my life and would be wasting a college education on deciding a major. In the end, I also gathered some professional and technological literacy. That is something many of the students at my school didn’t have.
