Nearly a decade ago, I sat down with my parents and discussed the future of my education which at the time felt like a punishment. I was fortunate enough to have parents who care deeply about my education. After what seemed like an eternity to a pre-teen, my parents told me that they decided to homeschool me because they didn't believe that the school system was doing everything that it could. As a result, I found myself surrounded by loving people who enjoyed education and promoted the idea of producing a product that you're comfortable putting your name on. As a homeschooler, I received advice about the future from my parents and other parents who taught their own children. Petersburg College and started on a path towards earning my associates degree. However, after one semester I saw that the students around me were lost in a sea of apathy. In all of my courses the students around me had the same mindset of "C's get degrees". I started to believe that all students have the same mindset about education and it was starting to dissolve my love of learning. At the end of my first semester, an advisor told me that I was eligible for honors courses which boasted small class sizes, more hands-on learning, and the best professors. I decided to take Honors American Government and I was absolutely stunned by the enthusiasm of the students around me. The course was more challenging and everyone around me had the same mindset of producing the best quality of work.
