Introduction
In the heart of Detroit, a city known for its resilience and spirit, the HUDA Clinic stands as a beacon of hope and healing. For over two decades, this nonprofit organization has been on a mission to provide free, comprehensive healthcare services to the uninsured and underinsured population of Metro Detroit. What began as a small community clinic in 2004 has grown into a vital healthcare resource, offering a range of services from primary care to dental, mental health, podiatry, vision care, and more. Through the dedication of volunteers, generous donations, and passionate student leadership, the HUDA Clinic has become a symbol of compassion, service, and humanity in the local community.

Recognizing the collective need for affordable medical care, the Muslim community of Detroit came together to establish a community clinic. In May of that year, the HUDA Clinic opened its doors, providing primary care services to those in need. Over time, the clinic expanded its services and moved to a larger facility on Woodrow Wilson Street downtown. What sets the HUDA Clinic apart is its holistic approach to healthcare. As well as physical health, the clinic emphasizes mental and emotional wellness as vital aspects of well-being. To address these needs, the clinic expanded its services to include dental, vision, and mental health care alongside primary care.
Volunteers: The Heart of HUDA Clinic
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the HUDA Clinic, driving its mission and ensuring its success. From licensed healthcare professionals to students pursuing careers in medicine, volunteers play a crucial role in delivering healthcare services and creating a supportive environment for patients. In clinical settings, volunteers gain hands-on experience by assisting with patient care, taking vital signs, and learning management skills. In 2019 alone, the clinic had 100 professional healthcare volunteers and 355 student volunteers, showcasing the strong culture of service and compassion that permeates the organization.

The clinic recognizes the importance of addressing social determinants of health, such as access to healthy food. In 2014, the clinic established the HUDA Urban Garden, a 6,000 sq. ft. urban farm staffed entirely by volunteers. The garden provides free produce to HUDA Clinic patients and nearby food banks, addressing the nutritional needs of the community. Additionally, HUDA Clinic has partnered with organizations like Matrix Health to offer free fresh food to community residents, further addressing the issue of
I am excited about the opportunity to share my insights and work with peers and faculty members to create positive change in the healthcare field. Comparatively, during my internship with the assessment team at California University of Science and Medicine, I was given the incredible opportunity to understand administration, team management, and technical skills comprehensively. Working with the medical school's software systems, I organized and delivered student assessment activities and information. In order to communicate effectively with delivery teams, I learned to collate large datasets and present them

For HCA, to avoid future disparities offering lower prices to existing patients and new patients, who could not afford the services, is a good initiative to not lose patients and therefore not lose profit. Another way to help with the disparities is to set up clinic services to patients who are not able to afford medical assistance at the same time this clinic can provide education to patients on how to better their health and lifestyles. If an organization treats and helps guide a patient he/she will continue to come back to get treated or educated. With this, it will help the organization target disparities, help the community while still making a profit because it retained their
HUDA Clinic is a free medical clinic that provide its services to the public with no cost. I volunteered at the Huda Clinic four-five hours per day for 18 months (number of days in each months vary). My role at HUDA clinic as volunteer is to take patients vital signs( blood pressure, temperature, Pulse, blood sugar, height and weight), history, prepare medical charts for health professionals, and teach the new volunteers how to do all that . By taking vital signs and patient history and develop a clear pain assessment and present it to the physician, it is make it easier and quicker for the physician to diagnosis the patients and develop a pain management plan. I saw many patients with different medical conditions but most of our patients
Many Native American communities are located in rural areas, far from medical facilities, and face limited resources to support healthcare infrastructure. Another challenge is the historical trauma and ongoing experiences of discrimination and marginalization that Native Americans face, which can contribute to poor health
So many go without medical care or must drive several hours to get it. Our very concept of health care is eroding across the country for various reasons, and those families that are the poorest, in minority groups, and lack access to resources are those I want to help with urgency. I know because my family suffered a lack of care due to financial hardship, living in poor conditions in a rural town with one stop
With Project HSF, I can serve and make a direct impact in communities I wouldn’t regularly encounter otherwise. I can be both a better future physician and a better
Helping the committee members to create goals for their community and execute a plan will give them the courage to talk to their local officials. In addition, it will educate the community on steps to organize to ask their officials for accessible medical centers, health education courses, and free to low cost medical
By reducing health disparities, vulnerable populations are empowered, increasing the equality in access to health care services, quality of care and efficiency of services. The United States is currently integrating the population health framework into its health care system to be understand the different determinants of health. As described by Jonas & Kovner, population health involves primary prevention, as well as the ability to involve social, behavioral, and environmental determinants of health in a way that the patients will be able to carry out their medical providers’ recommendations about lifestyle behaviors to reduce potential complications as well as to prevent social crises such as homelessness and losing jobs (95).
I want to help others specifically those who live in villages and don’t have access to proper health care
Introduction People hope and seeks long and healthier lives. Thus, health care is the act of taking preventative or necessary medical procedures to improve people well-being. Improvement or preventative may be done with surgery, the administering of medicine, or other alterations in a person 's lifestyle. These services are usually offered through a health care system made up of hospitals and physicians. Although, the health care system is set up to reduce or to prevent disease etc., there is a gap or disparity in the US health care system.
I am eager to contribute to the local community in meaningful ways, particularly in the field of healthcare. I believe that volunteering allows me to gain valuable experience and skills, as well as enables me to make a tangible impact. In Waterloo, there are many opportunities to get involved in healthcare volunteer work, and I am excited to explore these options and make a positive difference in my community. One area of healthcare that I am particularly interested in is mental health and wellness.
PATIENT CARE EXPERIENCE AND PARTNERING IN CARE Name of Student Institution Affiliation Patient care experience and Partnering in care Health care is continuously evolving with improvements in cures and medical equipments. Nevertheless, this does not transform into better health care delivery. To ensure proper and satisfactory services in the health care industry, it is important to focus on patient care experience and partner in care along with the families. We discuss this approach and its benefits, especially for the elderly like Mr. Taylor and how it helps them overcome the barriers they face for healthcare delivery.
The situation at the homes of the children also varies – some come from orphanages and others from loving families who accompany them to the hospital. Why is helping other people my passion? It is hard to explain, but essentially I want to be useful to the society, especially to the children who are in desperate need of attention. Coming back home from a long day at the hospital with plenty of emotions, thoughts and plans for the future feels incredible. Due to that, I wonder – do I give more or do I receive more by being a volunteer?
My research project with the Iowa Violent Death Prevention Program and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention exposed me to the causes of violent death in Iowa and I produced a report for the state detailing suicide data and advocating prevention methods. I served as a Student Leader Board Member at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where I managed hundreds of volunteers in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, tracking their hours and working on projects to benefit the patient and family experience. I was recently chosen to be the Chairperson of the Student Leader Board and will manage over 700 college student volunteers over the coming year. However, I started out as a typical volunteer in the hospital, mostly in the pediatric inpatient units. There, I met a vibrant young patient who taught me a great deal about the power of listening.
