It is often that many humans today take advantage of technology and abusing the power that technology has. There is a great amount of fear for the future because of all this technology that we have and what people might do with it in the near future. In the two stories, “Robot Dreams” and “Marionettes, Inc” the authors of these stories show what would happen if people decided to use clones and robots rather than real human beings in the future. “Marionettes, Inc” uses clones in its story. A man, Mr. Braling, didn’t really want to be his wife, so he thought it would be a wonderful idea to order a clone of himself to take his spot to be his wife’s husband, and she would have no idea. In “Robot Dreams” by Isaac Asimov, a robot named LVX-1 had a dream which was about the law of robotics but, this robot only heard the third law of robotics, but was only part of the third law in Elvex’s dream. The law stated “ robots must protect their own existence.” The other two laws of robotics didn’t occur to this robot. The first law states, “A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.” The second law states, “A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first law.” The whole third law of robotics states, Robots must protect their own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law.” (Asimov, Robot Dreams, 126) Elvex wanted things to be his way and he wanted to be just like the humans but the humans feared on how much he was acting like one of them. After Dr. Calvin had Elvex wake back up, he continued telling his dream. Dr. Calvin had asked him “You said earlier human beings did not appear at first. Does that mean they appeared afterward?” Elvex replied saying, “Yes, Dr. Calvin. It seemed to me, in my dream, that eventually one man appeared.” Elvex went on explaining how it was a man and not a robot, but a human being.
