In the novel,” The Pigman” by Paul Zindel, two teenagers named John and Lorraine befriend the Pigman. Near the end, the Pigman suddenly passes away. Even though numerous things contributed to Mr. Pignati’s death, the stress of John & Lorraine’s party and Bobo the monkey’s death played the biggest part. John and Lorraine threw a party while Mr. Pignati was at the hospital, but near the end, Mr. Pignati unexpectedly arrived back home. When he walked in, he saw the pigs that he and his wife collected were destroyed, his house was a disaster, and one of his wife's dresses was ripped. Mr. Pignati was very upset and started crying. The things that reminded him of his wife were gone. The text says,”’ She’s dead,’ he said, wiping his tears with the large white handkerchief.” Since she’s gone they can no longer go out and buy more pigs. No one would spend their time gluing pigs back together just to have a memory. “Several other broken pigs were laying all over the floor, and the only thing I could think of at that moment was …show more content…
Pignati if he wanted to go to the zoo and visit Bobo the monkey. He agreed to go, but when they arrived at the monkey exhibit they didn’t see Bobo. “‘Bobo died last week,’ the attendant said, still rolling up the hose.” Bobo was Mr. Pignati’s best friend and he visited Bobo every day that he could. He would visit Bobo with his wife, and they would feed him peanuts. Almost as soon as he heard the news about the baboon, he collapsed and died. “I saw the Pigman open his mouth, and then his hands started to shake. He went to grab hold of the railing, but let out a tiny cry almost like a puppy that had been stepped on by mistake… and before John or I knew what happened, the Pigman dropped to the floor… Mr. Pignati was dead.” The stress that had already been on him since being in the hospital, coming home to a mess from a party, and then adding the stress of his best friend passing away was probably too much on

How do you think the pigman died? Was it from a heart attack, stroke, or a broken heart. But what had to cause this distress that snuffed the Pigman existence. It might of been his loved ones death for that could have caused this. For how long has she been away and he not admit it.
While all three are responsible for Mr. Pignati’s death, a majority of the blame falls on the Pigman because he is oblivious to the truth, acts immaturelyunderage, and he is lonely. One reason the Pigman is responsible for his own death is because he is oblivious. Although his wife is deceased, he still speaks of her as if she is alive. For example, Mr Pignati says, “‘My wife collects pigs’” (43). His oblivion also shows when he states, ‘“My wife is not home just now’”
With Piggy's death, wisdom and power are gone, which leads to more and more chaos towards the end of the story. When Piggy dies, “...the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist…” (Golding 181), the conch is smashed, signifying the end of all the order and control and civilization in the story. Once the conch is smashed all chance of returning to a civilized and organized society vanishes. Piggy, the epitome of innocence and logic, understood the
At the end, when he contemplated his decisions, John finds that “There was no one else to blame anymore… And there was no place to hide—no place across any river for a boatman to take us. Our life would be what we made of it- nothing more, nothing less.” (148-149) After Mr. Pignati dies, he now comprehends that he cannot hide from his responsibilities, he cannot hide “[any] place across any river.” He has to live his own life, and his decisions are not the faults of others.
When they killed the pig, they brought it back to the meeting grounds for the others to see "He tried to convey the compulsion to track down and kill that was swallowing him up. "I went on. I thought, by myself—" The madness came into his eyes again. "I thought I might kill." (Goulding 70).
Reader feels very bad for Piggy the whole book, but looking at all the evidence Piggy is guilty of his own death. Piggy asked for Ralph’s name but “The fat boy waited to be asked his name in turn but this proffer of acquaintance was not made” (Golding 9). He is called pig by everyone. They don’t know his name. Everyone makes fun of him.
The two teenagers come to the conclusion that the Pigman’s death was completely their fault and that they had made terrible decisions. During this pivotal moment, both Lorraine and John’s characters develop, and they decide to admit that Mr.Pignati’s demise was their fault. The Pigman’s death caused the two teens to finally stop acting selfishly and take responsibility for their
The text contains another example of symbolism. The Pigman dies right after hearing the news of his pet baboon, Bobo, dying of pneumonia. Bobo the baboon
Piggy’s senseless death was a display of the lack of self-control Jack’s tribe has. Ralph watched his friend die while Jack threatened “‘That's what you'll get!’” (Page 241). The boys had lost all sense of values and morals. They had just killed one of the boys and showed no remorse.
Pignati’s death resulted in many emotions and thoughts, especially in John’s head. After Mr. Pignati finds out Bobo is dead, he too dies: “It was like a high-pitched scream, but it came from deep inside of him, and before John or I knew what had happened, the Pigman dropped to the floor” (142). Mr. Pignati had just faced a lot of obstacles and truths within a short amount of time. He found out the kids lied, he lied about his wife, the kids had a party, and his best friend Bobo died. Accounting for his old age, all these things led to both his heart attacks and death.
Body paragraph #3: Towards the end of this book you see the boys get comfortable or somewhat used to death and killing so much so when the large boulder or rock of some sort hits and kills piggy the boys just stare. They compare their friend piggy’s body to it looking like a pig 's dead body. One of the boys are talking about piggy 's dead body, “Piggy 's arms and legs twitched a bit, like a pig 's after it has been killed.” Pg. 165
John had said, “Several other broken pigs were laying all over the floor, and the only thing I could think of at that moment was the proud and happy look on Mr. Pignati’s face when he had
Many people believe that The Pigman should not be taught in schools because it contains bad role models and inappropriate content not suitable for young teenagers. They claim that John and Lorraine are poor role models because they made a bad choice and lied to Mr. Pignati in order to get money from him. Although they did lie to him at first, John and Lorraine eventually tell Mr. Pignati the truth about who they really were. They both realized that they had made a mistake that they needed to fix. Students will learn to do the right thing even if they do not feel like they should.
