Eric Harris was a teen psychopath that did not have plans for the future except his plans

for the massacre. Dick Hickock was also a psychopath that had a criminal record, which

consisted of writing bad checks and petty theft. The motives, the ways of manipulation, and the

faults in their plans are a few things that make Eric and Dick different.

In Eric’s plan, he did not target anyone specific. He wanted to be known as the person

who caused the Columbine massacre and end as many lives as possible. He wanted everybody

across America to be affected by this tragedy. Eric basically worked harder than ever to earn the

When he eventually got

bored of walking the hallways killing anyone in sight, he thought that there would be a big

shootout, where he would commit suicide by cop. Realizing that the police officers were not

really shooting or approaching them in any way, he decided to commit suicide without the help

of the cops.

Dick Hickock did not have an actual motive for the Clutter family murder. Throughout

the planning, Dick never really worked to earn his money. He manipulated a few stores by telling

them inaccurate stories so the purchases he was making would seem believable, then he would

sell the items to a pawn shop. Dick never wanted to discuss the murders. He always wanted to

change the subject. Floyd Wells, his former cellmate, mentioned to Dick that he was a former

employee of the Clutters, and they had a safe on the property, unaware that they never had any

cash on them. When he did not find the safe or any money, Dick resorted to killing the whole

Clutter family. Dick became a little too confident and thought he could get away with murder.

Since the police did not really have anything to connect Dick with the Clutters, he did not
