Monosaccharides are the simplest form of carbohydrates, and they're the simplest form of sugar also. Monosaccharides are the main block of complex carbohydrates, such as disaccharides and polysaccharides. They appear in a crystal-like substance, and can dissolve in water. Molasses has a high content of the monosaccharides. Yogurt contains monosaccharide galactose, cherries contain monosaccharide fructose.

Carbohydrates are molecules that consist of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen atoms. Carbohydrates are important because they provide our bodies with energy and fuel so our brains can function correctly. And carbohydrates causes our muscles to function as well. Carbohydrates is the body's preferred source of energy. Disaccharides, or sometimes called double sugar, is composed of two molecules of simple monosaccharides connected to each other. Disaccharides are crystalline water-soluble compounds. The monosaccharides within molecules are connected by a bond called, glycosidic. The three main disaccharides are lactose, sucrose, and maltose. Some examples of disaccharides are milk sugar, sugar canes, sugar beets, which is all made up of lactose, glucose, maltose, and fructose.
