All throughout the majority of my high school career I have watched all different kinds of public service announcements. The high school system loves to incorporate these multitudes of videos to try to convey a message. As a high school student I can confidently say that neither me nor my peers can learn from or relate to these videos. In driver 's education and health class every highschooler has to watch these public service announcements on stopping distracted driving. The videos that the school provides are often completely outdated and make you wonder if the tragedy at hand actually happened to the people poorly acting in each of the videos.
It’s amazing how many people will still drive distracted, either by texting, talking on the phone, or even not paying attention to what is in front of them. Over 5,000 distracted driver crashes have occurred in Utah in a year. This has resulted in 3,000 injured and almost 20 deaths. Wouldn 't you think that would be enough to make people think and see what is happening? Texting or looking at your phone is now illegal in most states yet so many people still do it.
Most Americans have all at least one time in their lives were driving in an automobile, and while driving picked up a cell phone, eaten and or drinking, or even fixed your hair in the rear view mirror. While performing these acts you have to actually take your eyes and attention off the road and therefore your risk for an accident increases substantially. Some of the accidents could be minor however, a lot of the accidents could be and are fatal. These acts are called distracted driving and is defined as the act of driving and the driver is engaged in other activities. There are many things that can be classified as distracted driving however, the main culprits would be looking at a smartphone or cell phone, texting, eating or drinking, personal grooming, and using a GPS or the radio.
When an induvial is distracted while driving they are endangering their own safety and the safety of others around them. When drivers decide to divert their attention from the road this is called distracted driving and that is against the law. The fact is that cell phone manufacturers can’t tell users what they can and can’t do with their devices. Cell phones makes our lives generally easier, they allow us to be accessible at any moment in time and in place around the world. And, it’s truly sad to say that there is a high percentage of individuals that use their cellphones while driving.
I. Why banning the use of cell phones while driving should be mandatory nationwide. A. To convince the public why cell phones should be banned while driving. B. To show the dangers and results of distracted driving. C. Distracted driving is any activity that takes away a person’s attention from driving.
Three of the high risk behaviors account for texting and driving including “eyes off of the road, at least one hand off the wheel, and mind off the driving situation” (Hollister, 2013). The three actions a person partakes in while texting and driving fall into the three major categories the Center for Disease Control established. Once people begin texting and driving, they no longer pay attention to their driving and only their phone or tablet. Distracted driving takes away the reaction time of a driver from avoiding a crash. Comprehending danger while driving takes multiple seconds.
If you said automobile accidents you would be right. With a combination of inexperienced teen drivers, drunk drivers, and distracted social creatures the roads of this country are an unforgiving place. Does it seem smart or even logical to allow these drivers to focus on anything other than the road? Just like when seatbelts were mandated, car accidents greatly decreased. I predict that with a ban on texting/talking on the phone while driving, without a hands free device, will greatly reduce the number of tragic motor vehicle
Far more advanced than the original cell phones, today’s cell phones allows users to not only make calls, but now allows users to send and receive emails, chat, skype and of course texting. The problem with this is the dangers that we all face on a daily basis due to distracted drivers that decide to utilize their phone while driving without concern for others on the road. Distracted driving is defined as any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving. All distractions endanger driver, passenger, and bystander safety. Distracted driving is extremely common in youth. Kids do not understand the dangers of distracted driving. That is why I believe we should have an app on our phones, that when you get into a car the phone powers down. The risk of dying is not worth one text. Yet kids in today's world do not see the risks or possibilities that can come out of it.
Since the early 2000 's, cell phone related car crashes have increased in number. Talking, texting, or merely glancing at a cell phone while being behind the wheel is a dangerous distraction while going 70, 50, or even 20 miles per hour. This is why I think that driving while using a handheld cellphone should be illegal. Talking on a cellphone is just as dangerous as texing, though some motorists would disagree, saying that talking on a cellphone is not as dangerous as texting, but they are very wrong. When a driver is concentrating on a conversation, they pay less attention to what is going on around them in favor of the voice in their ear.
However, current people like to do things while driving. For example, most of the drivers will eat, drink, communicate with passengers, answer call or text while driving but actually it will increase the risk of road accidents. Besides that, some parents need to pay attention for their children as they may try to open the door of vehicle or doing something that may cause dangerous. Not paying attention or doing few tasks at the same time will pay a terrible price. For example, if we texting while driving, attention for driving will decrease for us to text and it may cause inattentional blindness that we didn’t mention that those upcoming cars or drive like ‘drunk drive’ and thus accident happens.
