While reading the articles about dreams, I learned that dreams can mean more than just a weird thing that happens when you are asleep, they can mean deep and unique things that can change people’s perspective on dreams. Dreams can be scary, weird, or even amazing. That is all because of the unconscious brain. Some people always wonder why they have dreams. Dreams happen because it is our brains’ way of helping fix the problems people might be having in their life. “ Each and every night, we have access to our own personal psychotherapist-who understands us better than anyone else in the world” (Turner). Turner claims that, “ we have our own personal psychotherapist.” That means the sleeping brain counsels everyone through their hard trails.
Other people might want to know what a dreams means or how to figure out what a dream means. Sometimes it is hard to figure out what a dream means. According to Turner, she says to look for a unique or sometimes weird thing that might symbolize what that dream means. For example, look for a pig with wings or a goat with tail. Or the symbol might be something you’ve seen a long time ago (Turner).

It is not like a pig with wings or a goat with a tail that defines the dream. For example, being naked in public can mean you’re hiding something, not being prepared, forgetting something, or confidence (Obringer). It is not easy to hide something when there is no clothes to hide it in, or not being prepared by forgetting not to put clothes on, or forgetting to put clothes on (Obringer). Being naked in public and not caring or realizing it means that person has confidence in themselves (Obringer). Another example can be a falling dream. Falling can symbolize anxiety, insecurities, or even being scared or something that is uncontrolled in real life (Obringer). That is the brain warning you to take control and fix the
A dream is an ambition or aspiration for the future. In the novel Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck the theme of Dreams runs throughout the novel, many characters have different dreams but the main focus seems to be on the shared dream of George and Lennie. Many of the characters’ dreams are a microcosm of the American Dream which claims that great personal success can be gained by hard work and personal sacrifice. In the novel most of the characters have a dream. Each of the characters seem to have a sense of loneliness in each of their lives and their dreams are the things that keep them hoping for something better than their lives on the ranch.
Dreams are usually a goal or achievement someone has had planned for a long time, and when the wait is almost over, it usually overthrows that person’s emotions. We see a character’s emotions overthrown many times throughout the story. A good example of this occurring is towards the end of the story when Lennie gets really excited talking about his dream to Curley’s wife, but Curley’s wife was yelling about her hair. Lennie felt like he wasn't being understood or listened to, so he covered her mouth and she started screaming. Soon enough, Curley’s wife was suffocated quite literally to death.
PBS’s, Nova What Are Dreams, is a forty-five-minute documentary about how different stages of sleep effect our dreams. Throughout the documentary, we also witness how dreaming is essential for making sense of the world around us. For nearly a century, many thought when one is asleep the brain is asleep as well. Yet not until technology advanced, did scientists begin examining sleeping patients to notice every ninety minutes their patients brain showed activity as if they were awake but were still unconscious.
Dreams are aspirations that reflect a human’s wants and desires in life. They are a fundamental element that drives human beings to achieve the impossible. Dreams
One of the most common brain activities during sleep is dreaming. Scientist still to this day do not fully understand why we dream or what dreams are exactly. “Some experts suggest that dreams represent the replay of the day’s events as a critical mechanism in the formation of memories, while others claim that the content in dreams is simply the result of random activity in the brain.” It is known that visually intense dreaming occurs most commonly in the REM sleep stage. Dreaming causes the brain to become very active, and not only at displaying the images we see during our dreams.
1. Introduction Starting from the ancient times humans has always been interested in strange phenomena of sleeping and dreams. Dreams can be explained psychologically as images of subconsciousness and feedback of neural processes in human's brain. For most of us, dreaming is something quite separate from normal life. When we wake up from being chased by a monster, or being on a date with a movie star, we realize with relief or disappointment that "it was just a dream."
To dream is to desire an achievement which seems unobtainable. Most everyone has trouble convincing themselves that their dreams are within reach. Jim Carrey once said, “So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality.” This is a result of allowing dreams to remain dreams and, instead, opting to take a more reliable path. In doing so, a sense of emptiness that never completely dies out is often developed.
It appears that we are just scratching the surface when it comes to dreams, the reasons why we dream, and the meanings of these dreams. Bibliography Freud, Sigmund, and Joyce Crick. The Interpretation of Dreams. Oxford: Oxford UP, 1999.
Dreams are based on the dreamer’s attitude towards life. He believed dreams were deceptive. He believed dreams provided a secure environment to overcome one’s limitations without disturbing the dreamers waking life. Also a dream could depict some important aspects about the dreamer, such as how factors like power; acceptance, etc affect the relation between the dreamer and his reality/world.
Dreaming is a huge part of people’s lives. Dreams happen to everybody and are different to everybody. They tell a lot about a person’s life. Dreams are viewed differently by so many people. People have opinions on what makes dreams happen, what dreams are, and what they mean.
What does it mean to dream? Well, I believe dreams will always remain a mystery of phenomenons that science will never be able to explain. However, we can interpret our dreams in many different aspects. Philosophers, such as Alan Watts, interpret dreams in an interesting way, such as it being an adventure (The Dream of Life). From this, I’d like to think of dreams as adventures for our minds; we’re subconsciously wandering to a new adventure every time we decide to rest our eyes.
There have been many times in my life where I have either woken up in the middle of the night from a horrible nightmare or woke up in the morning trying to recall my dreams. I have spent a lot of time researching what my dreams mean. Although we have experienced countless dreams in our lifetime, do we ever stop to think: how dreams occur? How dreams affect our lives? Do dreams even mean anything?
Today I first discussed when dream occurs. Second, I discussed theories of dream. Finally, I discussed the dream interpreter. Understanding when dream occurs, theories of dream and what they mean help us grasp what dreams actually
What are dreams? Dreams are what you want to happen but aren’t sure it ever will happen, and hope it does. Dreams usually consist of hope, and hope is a very odd thing. It’s so bad to ever get your hopes up, it can really devastate you. I do suppose some people may not have dreams, if they have everything that they want/need.
William A. Ward once said, “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it”. If only this were always true; living would be so simple and easy. The idea behind a dream is that if an individual is ambitious and determined, he/she has a fair chance of fulfilling their goal, and the happiness that comes with it.
