Egg Diffusion Lab Report

Describe and give an example of diffusion Diffusion is when molecules moving freely through the space, it requires no energy. An example is when someone sprays a febreze in an area then the molecules slowly spread in the area. Which solution caused the egg to have the most mass? The least? Give data and explain why this happened in terms of osmosis and diffusion. The distilled water and vinegar had the most mass when it went in the egg. When the vinegar and distilled water is added to the solution they were both hypertonic. The water seeped in the membrane, it used diffusion to balance it out. On the other hand, the syrup and alcohol made the egg weigh less. When added, they were hypertonic solutions, water seeped out of the egg and balance …show more content…

The egg contained more water than the solution which made it hypertonic. The water moving out of the cell transferred to the solution which caused it to be smaller. Which solutions caused water to move into the egg? Explain and cite evidence. The solutions that caused the water to move into the egg were the vinegar and distilled water. The egg contained less water before the vinegar solution causing the egg to take in water. When the egg was placed in the distilled water, it grew in mass. For each solution in the lab, state whether it was hypertonic, hypotonic or isotonic. Explain how you know. Vinegar - hypertonic, because it was 95% water while the egg was 70% Syrup - hypertonic, because the egg got smaller. Distilled water - hypotonic, the egg got super egg Food coloring - isotonic ,the egg stayed the same size and only changed colors. Rubbing alcohol - The solution was isotonic because the cell sustained approximately the same mass Most animal cells placed in distilled water (100% water) will burst. Plant cells. however, thrive under this condition. Using what you know about cell parts and about osmosis, explain why this happens. The reason why plant cell can survive because they have a cell wall which allows it to stay in a rigid …show more content…

According to diffusion, and the diffusion of water that has an impact of cells, which is osmosis spraying water on vegetables in a grocery store is beneficial because it prevents the vegetables from shrivelling up. In colder areas, salt is spread over roads to melt the ice. Explain what effect the salt would have on the plants along the roadside (in terms of osmosis and hypertonic & hypotonic solutions). The salt absorbs the water because it is hypertonic and it will cause the plant to shrivel. When you eat something salty, it usually leaves you feeling thirsty. What is the best way to quench your thirst - with water or with soda? Explain scientifically (in terms of osmosis and solute concentrations in solutions) When something is salty the best way to quench your thirst, is to drink water because soda has less water than water. The water will suck out more of the salt from the food than the soda. What part of the egg was regulating the flow of materials in and out of the egg? This is the part of the egg that allows of particles in and out of the egg. It decided what was allowed in and out of the
