One striking example of the Milwaukee police department’s incompetence in this particular chain of working-class murders is the Konerak Sinthasomphone incident. Sinthasomphone was a Laotian 14-year-old who Dahmer had lured back into his apartment (). At one point, he managed to escape through the front door and wander into the streets, dazed (it was later found out he was lobotomized), naked, and beaten (Worthington 2). Two women found him and called the police, reporting a badly injured child walking the streets, unable to speak properly (2). Officers John Balcerzak and Joseph Gabrish arrived at the scene as Dahmer rushed over to make up a fake explanation (1). Instead of investigating the situation- an intoxicated older twentysomething with a bruised, …show more content…
Along with blatantly ignoring the problem, the policemen also mocked it. When one of the witnesses asked Balcerzak not to leave just yet because she knew Sinthasomphone was a child, the officer merely said he “could not do anything about someone’s sexual orientation” (2). Carelessly brushing off the issue of a 14-year-old being in possession of a registered sex offender in favor of making gay jokes, it was clear that Balcerzak did not take the problem seriously at all. As if that wasn’t enough, when the officers returned back to their station, they both snickered about needing to get “de-loused” after coming into contact with homosexuals (2). Balcerzak and Gabrish were unaware that 15 minutes after they left the Oxford Apartments, Sinthasomphone was strangled to death, his body dismembered and kept in pieces as trophies (Lippit 8). Their unwillingness to do their job as police officers because of their overpowering disgust for gay men is what caused this murder, and 4 more after it, to happen
“...Much of the recent crime increase threatens the vitality of America’s cities–and thousands of lives–it is not, in itself, the greatest danger in today’s war on cops. The greatest danger lies, rather, in the delegitimation of law and order itself’ (Mac Donald). In the book “The War on Cops: How the New Attack on Law and Order Makes Everyone Less Safe,” published in the year of 2016, author Heather Mac Donald provides credible evidence to expand on her viewpoint of our country’s current criminal crisis. In addition to “The War on Cops, Mac Donald has written two other books. Her works “Are Cops Racist?”
One thing that I have been taught in my World History classes is that humanity does not learn from its past errors. One way of reaffirming this statement/belief is with the relation between what happened during the last half of the 20th century in Boston, Massachusetts and the current crisis that we as Venezuelans are facing. Even though everything about both groups of people are different in infinite ways, our everyday problems are alike. While reading All Souls, an autobiographical novel written by Michael Patrick MacDonald based on his life in the South Boston area during the busing stage of Bostonian history, I first could relate to the author with the corruption his community faced.
Serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer killed 17 victims between 1978 and 1991 before he was apprehended by law enforcement. On the night of July 22, 1991, a patrolling police officer came upon a partially clothed man stumbling down the road (Federal Bureau of Investigations, 2016). That young man turned out to be the key to stop Jeffrey Dahmer’s killing spree after he reported that Jeffrey had threatened him with knife. Upon further investigation, officers discovered several body parts belonging to multiple victims throughout this apartment. During the investigation, remains of 11 victims and tools found in the apartment were sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) forensic laboratory specialists (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2016).
The cops were never concerned on Konerak’s safety.” (Bardsley) The question everyone wanted to know was why the cops didn’t believe that the young boy was actually hurt. What they missed in the apartment, were the pictures of dismembered body parts, and the chemicals sitting out as he prepared them for his next
Jeffery Dahmer also known as the Milwaukee cannibal was a notorious sex offender in America. He was charged for rape and murder of 17 young boys. Dahmer would also eat the parts of the young boys after he had killed them. What lead Dahmer to turn out like this? There are a several different theories that would fit in.
Rampart Scandal One of the most notorious police scandals of all time was the Rampart affair in the 1990s. This was one of the most widespread of documented of police misconduct in US history. More than 70 police officers of the Los Angeles Police Department in the Rampart division’s Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (A.K.A CRASH) anti-gang squad were implicated in numerous crimes including planting evidence, framing suspects, unprovoked beatings, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury, and unprovoked shootings. What was even more shocking was that many of these officers were on the payroll of known Death Row Records CEO Suge Knights.
On a dark scary evening, Lloyd Wickliffe was working as a security guard in a McDonald’s on Halsted Street on Chicago’s far South Side. At a little past eight, during an armed robbery attempt, Wickliffe was killed by a shotgun blast, and another security guard, Alvin Thompson, was wounded. The attackers, Edgar Hope and Andrew Wilson, did not get any money, but they stole the handguns the guards were carrying. Alton Logan was home asleep, nowhere near the robbery. Later he wounded guard, Thompson, was questioned and correctly identified Edgar Hope as one of the shooters.

“It’s none of my business;” “I wasn’t sure what was going on;” “I thought someone else was going to help;” “I didn’t want to get involved;” “I don’t want to be a target;” “I was scared;” “I don’t know”- These, plus many more, are all excuses given as to why bystanders did not choose to intervene in a crime they witnessed. The assistance could have been as simple as calling law enforcement. A crime could have been prevented, or a life could have been saved, but it wasn’t. Martin Gansberg’s “38 Who Saw Murder Didn’t Call the Police” focused on the re-telling of actual events when a woman was murdered while no-one helped. It revealed the psychology of the bystander effect and the frustration of the police, while providing and eliciting emotion.

Scope of Practice: Jeffrey Dahmer Almost everyone has heard of Jeffrey Dahmer and the horrific acts that he committed, and those same people probably ask how could those acts go on with no one noticing the “warning signs.” In the article, the author noted many “signs” that point to potential deviant criminals, but these are not necessarily actual factors that are used to gauge someone’s risk or mental state. In this paper, the real factors that contribute to risk will be distinguished and how those can be tested, factors in favor of helping Dahmer live a more “normal” life, his level of risk, his assessment, and the predictability of Dahmer. Numerous people have questioned why Dahmer was never caught.
It began at around 10 PM, on July 8th, 2001, in Las Vegas, Nevada, when a mutilated body of a man had been discovered, he had been badly beaten on the face and head, six teeth were knocked out, and he had been stabbed many times. 12 days later, on July 20th, a juvenile probation officer in Pioche, a 3-hour drive from Las Vegas, called to report a rumor that 18-year-old Kirstin Blaise Lobato had cut off a man’s reproductive organ. Detective immediately drove to meet the probation officer. The officer said she heard the rumor from a friend who had been Kirstin’s teacher. The detectives then located Kirstin.
In the case of Dahmer. Vs. Wisconsin, Dahmer was arrested from his apartment (1991) when one of his upcoming victims, Tracy Edwards, escaped and brought the police back to Dahmer’s apartment. For the following 2 weeks, Dahmer was questioned about his murders in which he confessed to have murdered as well as consume parts of the 16 young men he had killed since 1987. He waived to have a lawyer present as he wished to put an end to all the horror he created.
This world is plagued with poverty, diseases, and drugs yet the most destructive is selfishness. People think the way they want, people live the way they want, and people make decisions the way they want, all of which could be acceptable if only they took other people into their thoughts, lives, and decisions. Although it is true that human nature provokes the self-indulgence out of people, every person is capable of thinking about the other person. Throughout the novel, Night, Wiesel writes about the constant suffering during the Holocaust that caused the Jews to be self-indulgent, similarly, Rosenthal describes a murder in the article “Thirty-Eight Witnesses: New Excerpt” where thirty-eight witnesses go without telling the real story, and
Horrifying Dahmer Film Throughout the film, The Jeffrey Dahmer Files, character portrayed a variety of different psychopathic and antisocial tendencies consistent within profiles of classic serial killers. Unfortunately, these characteristics were not discovered in the Jeffery Dahmer until it was too late for far too many victims. Dahmer was rather charming and likable on the surface.
