When traveling the world every place has there own way of being unique. New Orleans is not an exception to this. This city is unique in many ways, however, the three ways that are outstanding to me are the style of the homes, and the people of the city, and how great their community worked together after hurricane Katrina to make New Orleans a better place. The houses in New Orleans are not the same as houses in other places around the world. Different types of houses that line the streets of the city are creole cottages, shotgun single, double shotgun, townhouses, double gallery houses, center hall houses, raised-basement houses, bungalows, etc. The shotgun home has been in New Orleans since the 1830s. They were primarily built for lower income people. Although they lack the fancy …show more content…
Whereas some people stayed or returned after evacuation to rebuild and make New Orleans better than before. In the beginning the recovery was slow, there were so many obstacles that the people of the city had to face. The hurricane “lives in the flood lines that have stained the city like a bathtub ring that 4 1/2 years of scrubbing cannot remove” (Carpenter). Not even this constant reminder was enough to stop the people who wanted their city back to normal. The locals weren’t alone in the rebuilding of the city. Some celebrities such as Brad Pitt and his Make It Right foundation played a huge role in bringing New Orleans back to the great city we once knew. Also Harry Connick, Jr. who came up with the idea to build Musicians Village. This is a place in the city that provides about 80 homes for musicians and others. What really got the momentum going was the New Orleans Saints becoming Superbowl Champions. Even though this had nothing to do with rebuilding the city, it seemed to give the people the drive they needed to make the job
In the book A.D New Orleans After The Deluge, By Josh Neufeld is about Hurricane Katrina and how it affected the people of New Orleans. This book was about real people that escaped and lived through the storm. Most people lost everything including their houses, all personal belongings, and jobs. As I was reading the book was shocked that in the beginning most of the characters were not worried about the storm they just wanted to wait it out. No one was expecting such a big storm and thought it would turn east like they normally did.
Steeped in history and with access to both the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Cod Bay, Orleans began attracting tourists and summer residents during the last half of the 19th century. Whether they are full-time residents or business owners, the people in Orleans know that they can trust Dirtworks to provide them with quality work whenever asphalt paving, asphalt repairs, driveway paving, reclamation, milling, parking lot striping, asphalt sealcoating, snow removal or site work is needed. He proceeds to announce the history of New Orleans, Louisiana, by saying “New Orleans is truly a city of many nations….. many cultures ” (Landrieu). Him saying this is showing you that his city is a home for everyone of all nations but he also continues by stating, “But there are also other truths about our city that we must confront. New Orleans was America’s largest slave market: a port where hundreds of thousands of souls were bought, sold and shipped….to lives of forced labor of misery of rape, of torture .” As he express this it shows that he knows his history of the city that he is a Mayor of and no one has to question that.
Evidently, some had predicted the events that took place during this period as analysts had indicated that New Orleans was sitting on a time bomb. The injuries and human deaths as well as damage and destruction to property that were witnessed during the period were results of long periods of political disputes, unstructured land development and mismanaged planning. However, the disaster took place and the New Orleans population has made significant steps towards moving on and reconstructing their lives. All strategies by the government and populations in New Orleans have been focused towards rebuilding a familiar New Orleans as well as reconstruction in a safer and more equitable way. Indeed, the victims as well as stakeholders in the New Orleans area have learnt significant lessons after the hurricane and they are using these lessons to reconstruct their lives and
New Orleans was founded on geologically young river deposits near the terminus of the North American continent’s largest delta. It is surrounded by water bodies on the three sides, with the highest point located about 25 feet above sea level. The Mississippi River is largely contributes to the most of the New Orleans’ landform. The rich soil which New Orleans is built on is made up of silt which is constantly covered with water every time the river floods or storm comes in from the water. This creates unique wetland landscape of swamps, salt-water marshes and bayous.
Industries such as Texaco, Exxon, Shell, and Reynolds Metals moved in to Louisiana due to the convenience of navigation and fresh water around (McPhee 3). These industries helped make the river popular and known for its importance, “A sustainable restoration of the Mississippi River Delta is a good investment with a high rate of return. Gaining ground is the most successful economic strategy” (Batker). Plenty of money was brought in due to all of the companies that depended on the water from the Mississippi River. There was an attempt to have the Mississippi River captured but the Rabalais that works for the US Army Corps of Engineers tried to prevent it.
Recently the media has been covering stories of the amount of black lives being taken by the police. Statistics have shown that is not the case, that the loss of black lives are due to “black-on-black crime.” In this article, the mayor of New Orleans, Mitch Landrieu makes an effect to understand the root of this problem, of why African Americans are killing each other. The problem of race has been a continuous issue in America. New Orleans happens to be one of the top city in America with high rate of murder.

These were losses they had to endure and yet no one knew where they were or even did enough to make sure that they were taken care of and placed in a safe place during and after the storm. This is a violation of civil rights and can be looked at as discrimination. Yes there were many people that got out of the city, and yet there were over 10,000 people housed in the New Orleans superdome. Plus there were others that were still stuck in their homes during the storm.
Through all the years Detroit was have hard times solving problems but also there was good things, including murders increasing year after year, the corruption in politicians, and people are compassionate.
Ultimately, everything from the architecture and landmarks to the residents living in them make each and every Chicago neighborhood special
Leaders now are coming up with new solutions as often as possible and making changes for the better. Although the crime has differed for the worse, the results of the city are interesting and can explain what's going on in the world today. Scientists can research more cities and test to see if other places are similar to Jackson. Putting an end to current crime is trying to be stopped and controlled currently. The root of past crime could be that there weren't many vacant places and stereotypical “bad” neighborhoods.

The reaction to Hurricane Katrina to me is shockingly similar to events that have happened both in the past and today in New Orleans. In the weeks after Katrina, the people of New Orleans were devastated by the death of family members, and the loss of their businesses, but eventually they began to rebuild the city just like they did after Hurricane Betsy. Since the construction of the levees
I loved the people and they loved me.. I was dedicated in honor of the City 's dead.... Who fought in World War two. Only God can count the number of tears that were shed.
