Everybody has their own opinion on certain topics, but there’s no arguing with the facts. Most people may believe that it is a violation of students’ privacy to use what they post on social media against them, but in reality, what they are posting on social media is meant to be seen. Using what they post against the students can help protect the students themselves, other peers, staff, and the community as a whole. Schools should be able to use what students post on social media against them to help prevent cyberbullying, dangerous cases such as suicide, depression, forms of abuse, school shootings, and the overall well-being of students and staff. Schools should be able to use what they post to help put a stop to cyberbullying and create …show more content…
The main way teens create and build relationships is on social media. When given into the wrong hands this can lead to harmful content being spread (Anderson par. 3). Teens with access to social media platforms can be prone to predatory behavior occurring, grooming, and potentially getting sent explicit images. Teens that have been sent explicit messages without consent have been 12.4% more likely to develop mental health disorders. Not only does the images affect their physical health it can also lead to many other scenarios leading to harm to themselves. According to Colin Burke and Cinnamon Bloss, “Over the last two decades, schools have faced several concerning trends related to student safety and well-being, including acts of violence, cyberbullying, and adolescent suicidality” (Burke par. 2). Social media has many negative effects on students and it can greatly affect their well-being and performance in school. The more school officials get involved could make a huge impact on their students. It could prevent suicide, inappropriate content, and help notify schools over cases such as school shootings. These factors play a big role in young students' lives. Students may postthings about it and if school officials see it they can immediately take action and have a positive impact on their students. While parents and guardians should be more knowledgeable about these things and if it is going on with their child, so should schools. School officials should have the knowledge over what is occurring with their
Should Schools Monitor Students Social Media!?!? Have you ever showed up at school and had a friend or classmate tell you about a rumor directed towards you? I think schools should monitor students social media posts but, only if there seems to be problems occurring and disrupting the class. Cyberbullying can lead to low self esteem and depression, causing worse things. Document E, document B and, document D all agree with limiting/monitoring students online speech.
Gladwell article was agreeable and disagreeable. There is a lot of school shooting happening, but it 's not getting popular and everyone isn 't going to start shooting up their school. The article has some agreeable saying, but yet there are some that you have to think about and realized it 's all wrong. In the article they give examples on how the teens that do shoot up their schools or just schools in general have the same mindset, but that 's not true. They all have different reasons why they do it.
There are real dangers when students use social media. In source 2 paragraph 9, it states “Cyberbullying is deliberately using digital false, embarrassing or hostel information about another person.” This shows that people online show or text embarrassing or hostel information about one another, which can lead to danger. This also shows that students are getting bullied. Also, in source 2 paragraph 10, it also states, “Cyberbullying is quite common, can occur to
Mass Shootings We have a crisis in America, mass shootings are happening more frequently in The United States than ever before. Mass shootings are a crisis in America and are killing hundreds each year. In the eighties, nineties, and even in the early two thousands may have had a two or three mass shootings in the decade. In the past ten years mass shootings seem to happen every few months.
What is the worst thing you ever done? Perhaps it yell at your mom, or maybe steal a candy bar form the the store. How did you feel after the fact? Guilty, or regret? Well unlike normal people, nicholas cruz gets his kicks from killing 17 inconnect students of Stoneman Douglas High School.
In today society media has to stop covering these mass shooting also using these stereotypical names to describe these shooter. Media has been influencing more shooters across America to do these violent acts. While others might say that the media has to cover these mass shootings. Over the years it has been proved that the media glamorizes these shooters which motivates others to do the same. America need to figure out a way how stop or decrease these shooting and possibly help these “Troublesome” shooters Media has been racially profiling shooters of color thugs or gang member also terrorist, but then portrays shooters of the white race as troubled or mentally ill, which doesn’t really make sense because why isn’t the shooter of color also troubled or mentally ill.
I would like to begin this assignment by formally apologizing for what I caused. I do realize when talking about school terrors in a school setting is a completely unnecessary thing to do. I would like to apologize for all the panic that you must have felt because in your situation you need to take any small thing even relatively a threat seriously. I now understand when in a situation like this I should not hold back my emotions and I should be showing my feelings and sorrows to the victims’ and the victim’s families, not the killers. By having my locker have the word “Columbine” with a heart and “E+D” in it is showing I support the killers to everyone in the school.
Mass shootings are a huge problem in the United States, but for some reason, political figures or government officials tend to handle these situations as if it’s just a regular crime. There have been 97 mass shootings since 1982, which in total have had 806 fatalities due to these mass shootings. Instead of treating, a mass shooting like it is a casual thing and coming up with all types of different excuses to control how people should feel and see the situation they should be working to make stronger and better gun control laws in order to regulate who can get a hold of these weapons. In the article, “Mental Illness, Mass Shootings, and the Politics of American Firearms,” written by Jonathan M. Metzl and Kenneth T. MacLeish explain the assumptions
Columbine High School was a school in the Jefferson County Public Schools. The school has a big history of events such as the Columbine Massacre. The Columbine Massacre was a school shooting that took place in Jefferson county, colorado. The shooting was caused by 2 boys, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Eric was a 18 year old boy who had many physiological problems and he was bullied at school.
Social media websites not only uses up time, but negatively impacts many people 's lives. While these sites may be interesting and entertaining, it also contributes to changes in mostly teens behaviors, attitudes, struggles in school, and effective
Should Schools Be Allowed to Limit Students’ Online Speech? Say a child is at home scrolling through social media, and they find a hilarious picture of their teacher and they decide to send it to one person, their “friend.” Their “friend” then makes fun of it and blows it up over social media. That “friend” made it seem like they didn’t cause all of the upsetment, and the child who shared it to their “friend” receives the blame. This proves that limiting students’ online speech should not be allowed under the circumstances of having them get blamed for something that they did not intentionally mean to do.
Mass Shootings have been pretty common in the U.S. In the past 30 years or so. According to the Congressional Research Service, there have been 78 mass shootings in the United States since 1983. The shootings have resulted in 547 deaths and 1,023 casualties. Mass shootings are only responsible for a very small percentage of deaths in the United States, but mass shootings are happening more often than ever, a mass shooting happens on average one time a month.
In today’s world social media is on the rise, and the way that young adults are using it is changing. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are leading to the rise in sexting, and adolescents are the ones affected mostly by this. Some do not see anything new in teenage behavior from previous generations. However no one really knows how they feel about sexting. no vital information is out there to tell anyone about sexting via social media.
I believe that people deserve their own privacy, the world wide web isn’t in the power of everyone so to just let schools look at students social media will do absolutely nothing because one are they gonna keep watch of the millions of accounts on social media what about the real things that are actually said and done now this isn’t the way the world works I think the schools should just focus on the task at hand and help kids pass over time students mature and are very aware of the things us as humans say or do. The real question is, is it really worth watching all the activity online instead of taking care of the stuff that can be prevented I mean The stuff we do now is the real do social media isn’t going to stop bullying or cyberbullying it won’t stop until students realise what they are doing I’m talking from personal experience, I’ve been harassed online and outside of the social world it’s just kids trying to show off to their friends. But the privacy issue still stands tall nobody should be able to violate that but it happens anyways because the government spies on us, so what if the government sees everything kids are saying to each other they don’t stop it. It’s not their fight even though they are suppose to know what’s best for us
There may be some reasons why social media is good for kids, but all and all social media is dangerous to the well-being and education of minors. To start with, social media is dangerous to kids that are online because people can be anonymous, predators, and/or cyberbullies. For example, Hinduja, a professor of criminal justice, at Florida Atlantic University says that about 20% of youth have been either victims or perpetrators of cyberbullying. Also, masking one 's identity on the internet make someone more likely to be a cyberbully (SIRS 1). Masking one’s identity can be a serious problem.
