a. The Latino paradox was identified by researchers in the 1960s and it notion that Latino immigrants of lower income and education has low rates of mental health issues compared to whites who has higher education and income. Relocating to a new country can be stressful, but Latino immigrants who relocate to the U.S. have better health overall than those who stayed behind. The video states that it could be due to the strong family bounds that the Latino culture has.

Social support is when an individual when feel like they are loved, like there are people available to help them and support them at any given time. For example, having family or community members who are always willing to help you reach your goal. Social exclusion is when an individual has no access to resources or opportunities that are accessible to another individual from a different group. An example of social exclusion is when an African American child is excluded from going on his school trip but his Latino friend isn’t. Social exclusion can lead to Social isolation. When a person is being excluded from having access to resources or opportunities, they can isolate themselves from their family, friends and community. There are lots of churches in my community and many residents in the area go to church. Going to church is a great way meet people with the same interest. The church members are extended family and there are different activities in the church that bring the members closer. For example, the Church I go to visits the residents in the area regularly as group. They host weekly prayer meetings, have church workout days and feed the homeless in city biweekly. The church give the members a sense of
Romero stated that Anglos held that extreme belief that “it is difficult for the Latino to understand the psychology of the Anglo-Saxon or those from Northern Europe.” This was just an excuse used to justify the unequal treatment of
Americans were outraged over the border dispute at the Nueces and the Rio Grande rivers, and Mexicans were irate with America’s annexation of Texas. President James K. Polk availed in the atmosphere of animosity, hurrying to place troops on conflicted land. On May 9, 1846, he found his cause for war. Mexican and American troops had engaged in combat on April 24, which led American blood spilt on contended soil. However, through all their fighting spirit, the Americans faithfully ignored their own mistreatment of the Mexicans.
The documentary titled “The Chicano Wave” was very effective in displaying its theme and the goals/intentions it wanted to complete. The main theme one could identify could be the theme of using music in order to express oneself and one’s opinions. This is evident during the civil rights movement when bands, such as Little Joe and the Latinaires, used their music to express their problems with the then-current race issues. But instead of being pessimistic about the situation, they sing songs about being hopeful, while still pushing a specific agenda. But there were still many more singers who sang about their opinions during different eras and about many different issues.
In this essay, I will argue how the Chicanos in the U.S. have responded to the lack of inclusion in history, opportunities, to racism and violence because through time we have seen how the Chicanos have been part of the country history and what it came to be, but we have been left out of history. The Chicano helped build what the united states came to be, we are part of its culture since the treaty of Guadalupe was signed, but our path has not been easy, many have been victims of oppression, poor working conditions, lack of civil rights and segregation. I’ll argue not that the Chicano has been a victim but what he or she have done to change the way things were for our ancestors in this obscure past of our history, how we have come together
Hispanics, initial drawbacks frequently come from their parents ' immigrant and economic position and their sparse knowledge regarding the United States education system. While Hispanic students navigate through the school system, insufficient resources in schools and their awkward rapport with teachers continues to weaken their academic achievement. Initial drawbacks continue to mount up, causing the Hispanic population in having the least high school and college degree accomplishment, which is counterproductive of having a possibility for stable employment. According to Portman & Awe (2009) school counselors and comprehensive school counseling programs are anticipated to play a dynamic role in addressing the discrepancy between diverse
This leads to isolation as the individual can no longer connect with others because they have been outcast for simply looking different than those around them. Furthermore, it can often be difficult for an individual who was isolated due to their race to find a community in which they are accepted, as they could be discouraged and become reluctant to look elsewhere on social
During my two interviews my with my two people of the Hispanic culture I came to find they were both had a good level of health literacy from a quick glance. It’s interesting I came to this conclusion fast after asking them each their questions, because I barely know these two on a personal level. Raul I met last year at comicpalooza, where we bonded over love over television and movies and came in contact since, mostly having conversations about show/movies; but never had conversations on anything like this level. Francis I met over swim class this fall at UH recreation center, so I came to the conclusion to pick two people I didn’t really know to ask these questions for this paper.
Las Vegas is where I was born and raised. That doesn’t mean that I just gave up on my Mexican culture. Like many others, I have a culture that is both American and Mexican. My culture has shaped my values, perceptions, and behaviors. The culture of my family, community, and society has made who I am as a person in numerous ways.

The increasing numbers of Latino youth who obtain college degrees are become active in politics, with the biggest trend of Latino population is youth and growth we can only hope for even more support in politics. “For the first time ever, Latinos accounted for one in ten votes cast nationwide in the presidential election, and Obama recorded the highest ever vote total for any presidential candidate among Latinos, at 75%” (Barreto and Segura 145). The Latino vote is becoming a crucial element to politics because of their size in population. . “While turnout declined nationally from 2008 to 2012 (by 2%), among Latinos there was a 28% increase in votes cast in 2012 (from 9.7 million to 12.5 million) and Obama further increased his vote share among Latinos in 2012 compared to 2008” (Barreto and Segura 145). In recent polls
According to Lixia Ge’s article Social Isolation, Loneliness and Their Relationships with Depressive Symptoms: A Population-Based Study states, “Social Isolation and loneliness have been individually identified to be associated with depressive symptoms” (Ge 2). I’m the first generation of my family to be Mexican -American, but I have been introduced to the Mexican culture since I was born. I appreciate the difficulties my parents have faced to make me the person that I am today even though I wasn’t born in Mexico my parents have taught me the language and the culture which I’m so proud of being part of. For others being Hispanic is actually being born in any Latin American countries which is not true at all. Being Hispanic is much more than my cultural background it actually describes how much I appreciate my culture and how I get to experience things other people don’t. I fit into the Hispanic community through the experiencing the culture first hand ,participating in traditions and planning to include my culture in my future.

In loneliness they are lonely because they lose something or because they get bullied or got something that makes them not able to be or talk to other people. In isolation it 's because someone may not like the society so they choose to be alone and not care for the society. They may feel that the society is trying to bring them down so they is trying to isolate they self away from them. So in this case that 's how social barriers are used in both loneliness and isolation. Personal choice will just be for isolation because isolating yourself is a choice that is made by the person that want to do that so they choose to stay away from society.
