When you look at ambition, do you see ambition as a good or a bad thing? Ambition is an overwhelming desire, determination, and drive to achieve goals, hit targets, and succeed at all costs. In William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth. The main character, Macbeth is a brave Scottish general, striving to be king because of a prophecy he heard. Macbeth became consumed and blinded by his ambition, as we often do. We can see many different ways of ambition today; in Macbeth having ambition for the throne, people in our day-to-day life. As Macbeth is running for the throne, he stops at nothing until he gets what he wants. In Macbeth, because of ambition, we see him go through transgressive behavior, and irrational decisions, and we see Macbeth sacrifice his character. Act 3 scene I, line 65 “Upon my head, they placed a fruitless crown, And put a barren scepter in my grip…” We watch Macbeth kill Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff’s family, all for the crown. Ambition can corrupt everything if you're not careful. When looking at ambitious people Including myself, I've found that ambition can cause a ton of unnecessary stress. It can even make you forget about the things that are very important in your life. An ambitious person tends to see only their goal, and anything that hinders progress is ignored or seen as an advantage. This, in turn, can …show more content…

Humans are lazy. They like to do everything the easiest way possible unless there is a reason for doing it the hard way. Ambition is the reason individuals do anything in the world whether for personal gain or to help others. However sometimes people are put in the shooting range when someone goes all in with ambition. In Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" Shakespeare develops the idea that people can use ambition in different ways such as changing the world, gaining power, and overthrowing the corrupt.
Shakespeare presents the theme of ambition in Macbeth. Ambition is a strong desire to do or achieve something, ambition can also be presented in a positive and negative way. Shakespeare presents ambition in a negative way through some characters who are Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and King Duncan. The reason these characters present ambition in a negative way is because they end up dying. Ambition is also present in a positive way through some characters who are Macduff, Witches and Malcolm these are the characters who survive in the play showing that you can be ambitious but not too ambitious.
Macbeth reveals through his wandering thoughts that "I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself and falls on th'other" (1.7. 25-28). This image of the ambition of a horse and his rider jumping too far, wanting too much, and eventually falling in the end, foreshadows Macbeth's eager efforts and tragic downfall. When Macbeth kills Duncan to get what he wants, one might think he already went too far. However, Macbeth keeps burying himself deeper and deeper into evil acts and lies. An example of this is when he kills his own friend Banquo.
Macbeth is tempted by the prophecy of the witches that he will be king of Scotland. He decides to kill the current king, Duncan, with the help of his wife, Lady Macbeth. He also kills his friend Banquo and tries to kill Banquo’s son Fleance because they pose a threat to his throne. Today, ambition can also lead people to do immoral or illegal things to achieve their goals. For example, some people may cheat, lie, steal, or even kill to get ahead in their careers or in politics.
Possessing a gullible attribute, Macbeth believed their statements and became very determined about becoming king. Even though Macbeth was an exceedingly humane person starting from the beginning of the play, he still chose to kill off the king to inherit his crown. However, after he committed the murder, he returned to Lady Macbeth, frightened, and said, “I am afraid to think of what I have done. Look on ‘t again I dare not.” (Shakespeare.

In the beginning of the play, Macbeth, although hesitant, is willing to kill the King. His loyalty is taken over by ambition and power. He betrays his friends and loved ones when he thinks that they might hold him back. But Macbeth's judgment is not the only one being clouded, when Lady Macbeth hears
He murders King Duncan in his sleep, then proceeds to kill anyone who poses a threat to his reign. His once-honorable character is replaced with someone ruthless and power-hungry. Despite his newfound power, Macbeth is plagued by guilt and paranoia. He becomes increasingly isolated from his friends and family and his mental state continues to deteriorate. The role of Lady Macbeth seems to reverse as Macbeth becomes more controlling and manipulative; while Lady Macbeth is struck ill with guilt, the tyrant continues his rampage.
Ambition is a powerful emotion in an individual's mind. It can benefit them or drastically hurt them. I have noticed in the play, “Macbeth” by WIlliam Shakespeare, that most of the important characters, especially Lady Macbeth, are very ambitious people. Once Lady Macbeth hears about the witches prophecies, her ambition takes over her conscience. She never thought twice about murdering the king: “yet I do fear thy nature; it is too full o’ the milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way,” (I.V.15-17) she wanted Macbeth to kill Duncan but feared he was too nice and too loyal to his king.
Explaining why one such character acted out. Ambition is used to show the corruption of power and the never ending seek for more of it. It is symbolized by violence which is constantly occuring as Macbeth is continually
Ambition is defined as a strong desire to achieve something. Ambition is normally a really good thing to have, because it motivates you to reach a goal that you have set. But in this case, Macbeth had way too much ambition and so he was willing to go to any length to reach his goal, which was to become king. Another reason why Macbeth’s ambition is bad is because he wants to be king for the wrong reasons. The reason he wants to be king is not to make Scotland better, or change some things he feels are not right.
The next step the reader sees of Macbeth’s growing ambition is in Act II. Macbeth is writing a letter to his wife informing her of the prophecies made by the Weird Sisters, and also of the King’s intentions to visit their household that evening. Reading this, Lady Macbeth promptly concocts a plan to murder the King in their household. That night, Macbeth tries to draw off the plan, “We will proceed no further in this business” (1.7.31). This shows that Macbeth’s ambition has not become so strong as to kill someone, nonetheless, this does not last long.
To conclude, ambition is a powerful force. It can be fueled by visions of power and lead people to change. This is best seen in MacBeth's character dynamic character. He changes from a good person, to someone who will kill anyone in his way to
What is ambition? Ambition is the determination to achieve one’s goals. In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare the protagonist, Macbeth, possesses ambition, which led to his downfall. In the play Macbeth’s ambition is driven by prophecies from witches and his wife’s aspiration. Ambition caused Macbeth to commit multiple homicides and after those wrongdoings Macbeth is left with nothing.
The road to a fatal outcome can be observed through many different qualities but excessive ambition is one of the main downfalls for most of us in society. Evil motivation due to uncontrollable and unnecessarily high ambition produces difficult obstacles in our lives. We could also become blind to making the right and moral decisions when our ambition is unrestrained. Additionally, all of the paths and routes for immoderate ambition leads to destruction and disorder. Another important note to keep in mind is that chaos and complications will be rooted from not only extravagant ambition but also poor decision making.
