Conformity “Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth” according to John F. Kennedy. Nonconformity can be seen as a person who does not follow the rules and is thrown by society (in jail) it is also the enemy of growth because if you are consistently a conformist and always follows the rules it can affect the way you grow a person. Not only as a person but as a society. In the allegory “Animal Farm” Orwell shows his opinion on his unsatisfactory of the communist revolution in Russia. Each animal in this book represents a person in this revolution or an idea. Napoleon who represents Stalin used tactics to discard the utopia Leon Trotsky started forming. He created a place where the people are brainwashed, where they are forced to become conformist without even knowing. One conformist that will be discussed is Squealer. One conformist is Squealer, most do not understand how this character is a conformist. Squealer was the “brains “ behind everything. He made everyone believe everything he was saying because of how well he uses tactics. Squealer is a conformist because he believes if he conforms to napoleon then he will have an advantage. In chapter 8 the animals (part from squealer) found a ladder that broke into two pieces next to where the 7 commandments were written. “Squealer, temporarily stunned, was sprawling beside it, and near at hand there lay a lantern, a paint brush, and an overturned pot of white paint” (pg.108par2). Later on that chapter it was discovered that the fifth commandment was changed.
