Gatsby was a good man overall. He always had good intentions for the things he did, even if the things he was doing weren’t so good. Gatsby had a lot going against him his whole life after he met Daisy. Like Daisy said in the book, “Rich girls don’t marry poor boys!” Gatsby was poor, and Daisy was rich there was no way it could work if he was a poor man. In my opinion, the downfall should not be blamed on one person or one event. Gatsby’s downfall should be blamed on numerous people and numerous events in his life.
Let’s start from the very beginning, when James “Jimmy” Gatz and Daisy Fay never even knew each other. In Chapter 6 Jay Gatsby tells us the real truth about who he really is, and where he really came from. This will bring us to the

The men were in love with Daisy Fay, but her heart wanted Gatsby! Immediately Jay realized that Daisy was the one for him, and he would never have a shot with her if he was a poor man. In Chapter 4
Jordan Baker tells Nick about her mysterious conversation with Jay Gatsby, and what they talked about. She tells us that before Gatsby was shipped off to war him and Daisy were madly in love with each other. Jay thought Daisy would wait for her, but she married Tom Buchanan instead.
Daisy ended up doing what she knows best, and that was making sure she was in some way rich.
She believed her and Jay wouldn’t work since he was poor and she needed money to fall back on. When Jay caught word Daisy had married it made him strive to become wealthy even more!
He deserved Daisy, not some guy who just cheated on her all the time. This pushed Gatsby even further to his downfall, and into the bad ways that made him rich.
Gatsby was an honest man, or so it seemed. In Chapter 7, when the big fight happens between Jay and Tom, Gatsby protested he did attend Oxford for five months! Gatsby did in fact attend Oxford, but what he failed to mention was that it was not on his own terms. Gatsby
Each character deceives their friends and significant others to make themselves seem better. Every character shows their true colors throughout the book by how they treat each other. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, all characters lie and deceive others to get ahead. Nick Carraway is the one honest character except he condones everyone's behavior. He does not make Tom own up to his mistress.
Daisy too is in love with Jay Gatsby who had almost ruined her life while receiving the letter the day of her wedding. Daisy wanted to cancel the wedding day and spend the rest of her life with Jay, but her mother thought other wise. Daisy went on to marry Tom and spent five years with him before finally spending time with Jay while drinking tea at Nick Carraway's household. Daisy had told Jay that she wishes she “had done everything on earth with
Gatsby wasn’t happy or healthy until he was with Daisy, but he did use money to cover it up. Gatsby was a rich and healthy man, or was he? Gatsby had many lives that was unknown about him. Gatsby believed that he was going to be wealthy and he was going to get everything that he wanted, including Daisy. "Her voice is full of money," says Gatsby about Daisy.
In the novel, The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby goes the extra mile to gain the “love of his life,” which I believe is for the American Dream he had never fully experienced. When deciding Gatsby’s intentions with Daisy, it is important to take in Gatsby’s view of her as a person, why he wants to be with her so badly, and his experience with healthy love. Ultimately, I believe, Jay Gatsby was not in love with Daisy; instead he
This si when Jay loses his cool. He yells and pins Tom against the wall and makes himself seem like a fool. Described in Chapter 7 Gatsby “looked–and this is said in all contempt for the babbled slander of his garden–as if he had “killed a man.” This showed that Gatsby truly was a bad man and he was just hiding well throughout the whole story. When Daisy noticed this she immediately made up her mind that she wanted to be with
Even though it arguable that Daisy is responsible for gatsby she was the main reason gatsby was killed. Daisy was driving the car that hit Myrtle. After Myrtle was killed Nick ran into Gatsby and gatsby said "Daisy stepped on it. I tried to make her stop, but she couldn't, so I pulled the emergency brake"(Fitzgerald 144).
Gatsby was determined to win Daisy over completely through the book. HE knew that he could always just be with her and treat her perfectly because he had the wealth. The wealth is what made him so likeable and
In the story of The Great Gatsby, people might have different opinions on who is to blame for the downfall of Gatsby. My belief is that Gatsby himself is to blame for his own fall. The first thing that Gatsby did to jeopardize his fall was moving across the bay, where he always had an eyes view of Daisy. Then the next thing that he did was not respecting the fact the Daisy and Tom were married and had a child together. The final thing that he did was trying to cover for Daisy and not telling the truth about what actually happened after the accident with Myrtle.
In our world it is hard to indicate whether it is genuine when an individual is treated in a kind matter or being deceived in order to get exploited for something in one’s possession. It is quite unfortunate that in this world, homo sapiens use a gift such as kindness in order to deceive and get whatever they desire, instead of being genuinely kind to one another. A person should not have to doubt the truthfulness behind someone’s kindness towards them. The readers of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby experience this false goodness and deception, through the false belief that Jay Gatsby is a kind hearted soul, with a pure and white soul; Contrary to that false belief, Gatsby is in truth, foolish, pathetic and a man who repeatedly sin and prove he is not
In Scott Fitzgeralds novel “The Great Gatsby” it gives many examples of how Jay is not so great. Everyone in New York (in the story) thinks that Jay Gatsby is wonderful and “great”, but as you read along you notice that Jay Gatsby is not all that great. He makes himself look so good in front of everyone but in reality he's not. He started out as nothing and became something big, but no one really knew besides Nick, he could see that there was nothing great. Why is Gatsby so great?
Jay Gatsby was obsessed with Tom’s wife Daisy. Before Jay went to war and Tom met Daisy Jay and Daisy dated and intended on getting married. Sadly Jay was out of the country longer than expected and Daisy met and married Tom Buchanan. If Tom loses all of his money he will be nothing. Tom may have gone to a good college but he has no workplace experience and his polo career isn't going to be going anywhere due to his body size and his skill.
After leaving his small town, he became the acquaintance of Daisy, a young girl whom he falls in love with but eventually marries into “Old Money”. The root of Gatsby’s immorality comes from his envy over Tom’s marriage to Daisy. In
The Negative Influence of Wealth Wealth and prosperity are the core of living a lavish lifestyle and having a successful life. However, money can influence people into debauchery. In the book, The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald introduces to us to some of the dangers of being rich. Most people in the Great Gatsby were very privileged, and they lived a lavish lifestyle.
Humans, by our very nature, are always striving to achieve more in life. Unfortunately, our materialistic society, and that of the Roaring Twenties, interpret this as striving for wealth. That pursuit often becomes all-consuming, eventually hindering our pursuit of gratifying life goals. In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald depicts wealth as a fraudulent thief whose pursuit must be abandoned for the sake of tangible fulfillment. He illustrates the dangers of attempting to find gratification in wealth through the life of Jay Gatsby, who ironically sacrifices morality, identity, and love in order to gain wealth, which he attempts to use to justify his claim to these very things.
Jay 's Obsession in The Great Gatsby There is a fine line between love and lust. If love is only a will to possess, it is not love. To love someone is to hold them dear to one 's heart. In The Great Gatsby, the characters, Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan are said to be in love, but in reality, this seems to be a misconception.
