Some people may think that overcoming the fear of spiders is the most challenging thing that someone can do. Fearing spiders is one of the mental challenges that anyone can overcome, just like Odysseus. Many people that fear spiders more than others tend to believe that they cannot get rid of the fear. No matter how brave Odysseus looked or acted in the story, he must have had a hint of fear in each challenge. The fear of spiders and the challenges in The Odyssey has some similar connections with each other. One of the connections is that most times when faced with something new, there will be a bit of fear involved. An example would be a child seeing a spider for the first time. The section where the fear can go away almost instantly may not apply to everyone. Some people out there are different, even if they did try to overcome their fear. They might still be afraid even after trying to own or touch a spider. It is the same thing with fighting a Cyclops. Unlike Odysseus, if people were to fight a Cyclops and win, they might still be skeptical because they were fighting a bloodthirsty monster and were lucky to get out alive Another argument for the fear of spiders not being valid is the sacrifices both parties would use in order to complete the challenge. The battle with the Cyclops used men as sacrificed, and lives are sacred. With the spiders, however, only small parts of skin would be in danger of getting bit. The sacrifices used are far apart from each other, that is why some people will think the fear of spiders will be invalid. There are many other reasons on how the fear of spiders can connect to The Odyssey. These few are some of the more important ones. The fear of spiders and The Odyssey both have one theme in common. It is to never be afraid of anything, even if it might hurt. Odysseus and the people that have conquered their fears over spiders have shown this. It does not even have to be a fear of spiders to begin with. Whether it is trying out new food or driving a car for the first time, they can be overcome
