Federalists vs Democratic Republicans The government has to be run by someone right but by what party and how? The first two political parties in the nation had many different conflicting views on how to run the government. They both had obvious reasons for who the type of people they wanted to be in control. The Federalists wanted the higher class more wealthy citizens to run the country because most of them were intelligent and knew how to write and read this is known as Plutocracy. On the other hand the republicans wanted all people no matter how intelligent to control the nation also known as democracy. The democratic republicans wanted strong ties with the french. They supported the government that had taken over france after the bloody revolution that had taken place in france also they had helped us in our struggle so we should support them. Opposingly federalists liked the british and wanted to alliance with them for our economy they wanted to be able to trade goods with the british. They also had a strong army that could help us in future problems. Trading was key back then it was one of the only ways to make a lot of money. The government needed money but what would the trade. The republicans wanted agriculture like crops and animals to be our main trade because there was a vast majority of open land and clean air out in the west. The federalist thought differently they wanted to manufacture stuff because there was high demand for tools clothes etc at this time.
