Philosophy has been around for more than a thousand years, and it is still relevant up to now. Philosophy, deriving from the Greek words philo and sophos, means love of wisdom. Wisdom is something we apply to ourselves in order to improve our actions and the way we think. Our experiences affects our view on how to approach life. Therefore, having wisdom is essential in our lives. Philosophers have done a lot of contribution, and they have influenced my perspective. Starting with Gautama Buddha 's Four Noble Truths, it gave me a deeper insight towards suffering. Experiencing suffering, it has affected me emotionally and mentally especially when I’m attached to a certain thing. The Allegory does not only talk about the enlightenment of one’s self but it also tackles human perception. Another philosopher who tackles perception is Rene Descartes. Based on Descartes, he argued that senses can be dubious as it can be deceived sometimes, and that the senses are unreliable and not enough when it comes to knowing the truth. Our eyes can deceive our perception. Like magicians, they can trick our perception easily as magicians tries to persuade us to believe that their trick is real and not an illusion. Comparing this to Plato’s Allegory, the shape holders and magicians both confuses people’s perception. Going back to Descartes argument, I’ve learned that relying on our senses is not enough to know what the truth is. Applying this to my life, I shouldn’t just accept informations based on what I see, hear, touch, smell, or taste as senses can misled or confuse my perception. For example, hearing a gossip about my friend. I shouldn’t judge my friend because of what I’ve heard. I should not jump into conclusion, I must know what the truth really is. Informations sent by my senses must be always backed up with critical thinking and proper judgment in order to know the
