George Washington is well known by a lot of people, because he is in the United State dollar bill. The reason why his in the dollar bill is because he gave a lot of help gaining freedom in the American Revolution. George Washington is an important character in the Revolution war because he was the the Commander of the Army. Washington was also the very first president of th United States.
Early life
George Washington was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia, on February 22, 1732. He is the eldest of the six children of his father’s second wife. His father, Augustine Washington, was a leading planter in the area and also was serving as a justice of the county court. Then Washington’s dad died when he was eleven so his half-brother, Lawrence Washington took over his father’s properties. George Washington was able to get better education when his brother was his guardian. He learned the basics like reading and doing math, he also learned how to become a gentleman. He was elected to be the very first president of the United states of America. First Washington resisted being the president so there was the first election which was in January 7, 1789. He was elected at the age 57 while the second highest vote was John Adams who became the very first vice president of the United States. The United States was small with eleven states and about 4 million people. For two terms, George Washington was the president of America. As the first president, Washington had to set the standards for what future presidents should do. George Washington grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia where his first job was a land surveyor. As a young kid, Washington never thought of himself being the president one day. At the first presidential election in 1789, Washington ran against John adams.
Although he was only trained for small frontier wars with a small number of troops, he had enough courage, determination, and intelligence to defy all odds and defeat Britain. After his great victory, Washington gave up command of the Colonial Army and returned to Mount Vernon with intentions to resume his old life as a farmer. However, in 1787, he was asked to attend the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia and help draft the new constitution. He impressed all the delegates with his leadership and wisdom, convincing most of them that he was the most qualified person to become America’s first president. Public opinion was so strong towards Washington that he chose to run for office.
As the commander-in-chief of the Continental army, created by Congress during the American Revolution, he was leading the army through his plotted strategies in the War successfully. Most importantly, his clear stature of command, willpower and wits were instrumental in uniting the congress, the army and also the French together as allies sharing a single common goal. The army led by him had successfully won against the British, thereby resolving the conflict and granting the American Independence. The constitution had elected Washington with a hundred percent electoral vote, consequently making him the first president of the nation. He was re-elected again unanimously and continues to remain the only president to have done so with a similar vote.
George Washington demonstrated Remarkable leadership in a long and difficult war. Being the commander of the continental army he faced many challenges that some people would not be able to overcome. One reason the American army started to act more like an army rather than a bunch of farmers and workers was because of George Washington. He had a huge impact on the war and the starting of the revolution, Its safe to say he had a big impression on the way everything turned out. Not only did he have a huge impact on the war side of the revolution he also had an impact on the political side.
George Washington is most known for his leadership as both a general during the revolution and the first president after the war was concluded and the Constitution was ratified. George Washington was very loved by the American people for his leadership as a general. This contributed to the constitution being ratified as most of America had enough faith and trust for Washington that it opened them up to the idea of an executive branch. During George Washington speech senator William Maclay of pennsylvania remarked that George Washington looked agitated and embarrassed.
