The men that befriend him on his journey and help Roald in many ways. Roald Dahl meets a man named David Coke while on an adventure. He describes David Coke as a helpful and honest person. One reason the text shows that David is a helpful person because it states "As you don't seem to know anything at all I'd better try to help you" (First Encounter With a Bandit,65) This shows that David is …show more content…
Based on the text I can infer that Mdisho is a very brave and energetic person. One piece of evidence that leads me to believe he is energetic is because "By then it was getting dark and it was not easy dodging around the tall prickly sisal plants , but I went on running" (Mdisho of the Mwanumwezi, 36) By this piece of evidence it makes me believe that Mdisho is athletic because he kept on running even though he faced a lot of obstacles. A piece of evidence that shows Mdisho is brave is because it states " I came home by the road because it was faster and I didn't care anymore about the askaris seeing me" ( Mdisho of the Mwanumezi, 40) This shows that Mdisho doesn't care if he see's someone with a bloody sword. Based on these pieces of evidence I can state that Mdisho is Brave and Energetic. Reading is a very key skill to learn lots of information. This book "Going Solo" tells us about a man that goes on an adventure and has to fight in World War II and on his journey he meets two men. Mdisho and David Coke help him on his journey. I read Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, which gave me a new perspective regarding World War II. Unbroken was written from a soldier’s point of view, which inspired the reader and caused empathy towards the soldiers who were the victims of war. Silvie Zamperini or “Louie” grew up running from trouble and home. With help from his older brother Pete, Louie stops running from the law and starts running from his opponents as he develops his skills in track and field. Louie is no longer viewed as a criminal but a fast athlete with a bright future.
In my paper I will be going over two novels, comparing the way that these two authors presented and remembered their war experiences. The two novels that we have just read, were Goodbye, Darkness: A Memoir of the Pacific War by William Manchester
To conclude, this story is a very realistic piece that readers can relate
In the novel A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J Gaines, Grant is a main character that has a lot of influence over the people in his community. Some might even consider him a hero. I believe that Grant is a hero because he helps Jefferson become a man, changes himself for the better, and wants to continue changing the community. Over the course of the novel, Grant helps Jefferson become the man that he needs to be in order to walk to his death with honor. When Grant first begrudgingly went to visit Jefferson in prison Jefferson was in a really low state.
Soldiers who fought in wars throughout the years are viewed as heroes in their countries eyes. Nobody actually knows what the soldiers have to go through mentally and physically. Nobody knows about the traumatic experiences and different emotions these young and women had to go through. In Tim O 'Brien 's Book “ The Things They Carried”, he shares multiple stories about different characters experiences. Tim O’Brien showed how the war can affect different characters from changing their personality or having guilt for the rest of their lives.
He shows great skill throughout the story. He is good with swords. In most of the battle scenes in the book, he is always the one to kill the most of that enemy. He also shows great skill in planning. He is the one who got the key into the mountain and assumed that there is a door.
Although he learned that he had to learn to cope with every single physical, emotional and mental stress factor that came his way. He learned with every guy in his platoon, they all stuck together. This novel was a very well written book. Each story was different, and gave a different aspect on war every time. The emotions were real, and very descriptive.
But Tim O’brien flips those ideas upside down using the chapter “How To Tell A True War Story” in The Things They Carried. The reader learns of a young man whose best friend dies in war, and how he writes a letter to the sister about his life, only to never get one in return. Throughout this chapter, the reader learns how truly contradictory the idea of a “true war story” really is. With a reflective and didactic tone, Tim O’brien effectively teaches those who have not fought in a war how to tell a true war story-- that “a
In the story of ' 'Going Solo ' ', Roald Dahl meets many different, strange, and interesting people along with his journey during the setting of " The First Encounter of the Bandit" on pages 26-30, two characters from the story that Dahl vividly remembered was two men who went by the names of David Coke and Corporal. Both characters were a part of the same training camp. These two people in his life-telling story had been remembered in interesting ways in which they were compared in drastic ways. David and the Corporal were expressed in two dissimilar ways that lead to the chapter in which Roald felt about their personalities. In the story of "Going Solo", chapter " The First Encounter with a Bandit", Roald met a man that was known as the
Emily Perevich, who played Dawn in the play Lobby Hero, did a fantastic job of solidifying herself as a naïve young female cop with a lot to learn. The play Lobby Hero was written by Kenneth Lonergan, directed by Francis X. Kuhn, with scenic design by David Dwyer, lighting design by Gary Thomas Musante, and costume design by Elizabeth Fontaine. At the beginning of the play, we see Dawn speaking with her superior Bill and becoming upset when discussing what will happen in the aftermath of her defending herself from a violent bar patron and sending him to the hospital. During this scene, Emily displays Dawn’s initial anxiety over the situation with her tone of voice, as she sounds frantic and high-pitched over the possibility of not being able to become an official cop.

“A true friend accepts who you are and helps you become who you should be.” Steve and Nathaniel proved that friendship and happiness can be real in the novel The Soloist by Steve Lopez. The way friendship is portrayed in the novel is unexpected in such a way that we don’t see it happen often in our daily life. It is important to our society because finding a true friend is really difficult to find. True friendship is hard to find now in days because we expect many things in return from other people.
