The Last (Community) Team Standing
If I told you that 360,760 people held 5 million shares of stock in a $1.95 billion franchise but never made a penny off their investment, you would likely not believe me. If I told you that this investment which paid nothing to investors was the backbone of one of the most storied teams in sports history, you would certainly believe I was not being honest. Yet, it is this truth that makes the story so sweet.
The Green Bay Packers are one of the oldest teams in the National Football League. Many of the great names and games have gone through or taken place at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Superbowl trophy is named after Packers' legend, Coach Vince Lombardi. Apart from their one-of-a-kind history, the team is also the only community-owned nonprofit in the entirety of professional sports.

No other NFL team is located in such a small locality. In fact, the smallest venues other than Green Bay are Buffalo and New Orleans, each with over 1 million people. The NFL cities of New York, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Houston have more people than the entire state of Wisconsin. Yet, the Packers have one of the most loyal followings in sports, and that following has made them the 10th most valuable franchise in the NFL with a worth of more than $1.95 billion.
If you are not amazed yet, consider that the Packers have only ever had three owners. The first was the Indian Packing Company (thus the Green Bay Packers) that gave Curly Lambeau (thus Lambeau field) and George Calhoun the money to start the team in 1919. Second was the Acme Packing Company that bought out the Indian Packing Company. Third, was the Green Bay Football Corporation, a nonprofit entity established to run the team in 1923, that still runs the team
Earl Lambeau was born in Green Bay, WI on April 9, 1898 and died June 1, 1965 in Sturgeon Bay, WI. On August 11, 1919 Lambeau started the Green Bay Packers with the donation from the Indian Packing Company, which founded $500 for the team uniforms. He also was a player and the head coach from 1919-1949. After he was done coaching the Packers, he went and coached the Chicago Cardinals from 1950-1951 and the Washington Redskins from 1952-1953. In 1963 he was put in the Hall of Fame and the name of the stadium changed from "New" City Stadium to Lambeau Field in his remembrance of his time and effort; with saying this his career record was 229-134-22.

Pete Rozelle The NFL today consists of 32 teams, 2 conferences, and 4 divisions in each conference. In February, one team from each conference battle it out in the Super Bowl. But the NFL wasn’t always like this. In 1955, there were 12 teams.
B.Schultz Lit II P.1 Gronkowski Legacy You may have heard of the “Gronk Spike”, whenever New England Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski scores a touchdown that is his signature celebration. He brings the football way above his head and throws it on the ground with force, the celebration may define Rob Gronkowski, although his whole family is pretty good at the game of football. The future father of five talented athletes was born and raised in West Seneca, New York.
The new England Patriots are one of the most sensational top-rated teams in the NFL and are far more superior than the Atalanta Falcons. Statistically on and off the field, here will explain what makes one of the best NFL teams so incredible. You need a top tier offence, defense and of course the coaches. The Falcons are a good team for sure but just can’t keep up with the Patriots Quarter Back, Offence defense or the coaching.
It 's insane that a college football coach could make more than $7 million annually. It 's especially crazy in a multibillion-dollar sports/entertainment entity that still — laughingly — passes itself off as a nonprofit operation in order to maintain its federal antitrust protection. But it 's the price of doing business. Or rather, the price of doing "nonprofit business."
“These White Sox boys were an especially volatile, spirited bunch, a club loaded with bitterness and tension.” (Asinof 6) I wonder if this played a part in the scandal. If people knew that they were a rowdy group that, could have been easily mistaken for a bunch of guys just playing ball so they could party and make money. The bitterness in the club was because of the low pay they were all receiving.
The Green Bay Packers are (in my opinion) a fantastic NFL football team!! Possibly the best!! Lately thought the Packers have, well, sucked. (To be honest!) There record is 7-4 and well to me that 's somewhat awful for a team that can do SO much more!
For the first time since 1990, the New York Giants are the reigning Super Bowl champions. Their thrilling victory over the 18-0 New England Patriots is already being called one of the greatest football games every played. Even casual football fans found themselves following the ups and downs of Big Blue last season. It all started when bookie Tim Mara bought the New York Giants in 1925 for a whopping $500 and then almost went bankrupt when they lost their first three games. Six years later, Mara passed team ownership to his sons Jack and Wellington.
Over ninety-four radio broadcast aired the event. Since then it is one of the league’s longest traditions, continuing on every year with the exception of a few years during WWII. None of the previous teams looking for their birth in the city of Detroit succeeded. Not one lasted over a year and a half. Low attendance, questionable finances,
These are just a few of the all time greats that played on Lambeau Field. Other than the team Hall of Fame, more than 12,000 seats were added to the top of the stadium as well as many new luxury suites. With all the extra seating and new accommodations, the Packers are projected to have an economic effect of $13.5 million a game(Walker)! This economic boost will benefit the team and the community as a whole. These renovations have caused a massive boost in revenue and continue to create new opportunities for fans and players.
They were very instrumental in Green Bay's drive to the championship years. From 1961-1967, they won 5 NFL championships in 7 years- including 2 Super Bowls. (Carroll won 3 titles in 1965-1967). Green Bay was the team of the 60's from a small town referred to as "Titletown,
While the Bears are more run oriented, the Packers are more pass oriented. The problem with being a pass oriented offense is that you rely on the quarterback too much. If something were to happen to the quarterback, the team would be in trouble. Even though the Packers have been successful in their passing game, they haven’t found an equilibrium between their passing game and running game like the Bears
In the 1980’s, the Chicago Bears were among one of the most elite teams in the NFL, but it wasn’t until 1985 that the team left their mark on the league winning the most treasured title of any NFL team, Superbowl Champions. But it is a long and treacherous road to glory, but also one that is beneficial in the most righteous ways to anyway who has the heart and competence to travel such a path. The Bears possessed the unique qualities of an admirable team, a great defense, a diligent offense, and a driven coach. This lethal combination dominated the league in the 80’s and achieved the ultimate greatness in 1985.
The sun illuminates countless all-American names, with the occasional Coke or Papa John’s sponsor signs. The play clock ticks down to zero, and the stadium is finally filled to maximum capacity. Kickoff commences, players scramble across the field, and suddenly the only problems in the world hinge on if the Nike plastered football is past the downs marker. There are the elite suites high above the stadium cloaked in shade, but the majority are cramped and blisteringly hot. We are all united as one, cheering our team to victory, and thriving on the culture that is modern day sports.
