The Democratic-Republicans and the Federalist were the two biggest political parties in the late 1700’s and the early 1800’s. The Democratic-Republican and Federalist parties when formed when Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton had conflicting views when they were elected as heads of departments by George Washington. Some of the beliefs the Democratic-Republicans had were ruled by the people, strong state government, economy based on agriculture, a strict interpretation of government, strongest ally with the French and have state banks. On the other hand, the Federalist views were, ruled by the wealthy, strong federal government, economy based around manufacturing, a loose interpretation of the government, strongest ally with the British and have a national bank. But Jefferson had a different idea. He thought if the people would elect the rich that whey would try to turn the freedom into a monarchy with the president as king. Another conflicting view was how big the government is gonna be. The Democratic-Republic believed that the government should be limited power that would leave the people alone. To contrast, the Federalist believed in a big, strong government. They thought a limited power government couldn’t handle protest or an attack. The Federalist believed that the economy should be based around manufacturing. Hamilton's vision was that the federal government will promote business, trade and manufacturing to increase the nation's wealth since the economy was purely based on agriculture. But Jefferson liked the idea of keeping it based around agriculture. Since Jefferson grew up in the country he thought that big cities were not gonna help America's future. The Democratic-Republicans believe in a strict construction of government. Which is surprising because when he was in office, he did a lot of things
