The House of the Scorpion In The House of the Scorpion, Matteo goes through a significant amount of character growth throughout the book. Matteo starts off as an extremely young innocent 7 year old boy. In his 7 years of living, he knows nothing about the outside world and has never met anybody other than his “mother.” His temporary mother keeps him in her home, and has kept him there for quite some time. Matt was still curious about the outside world regardless of what his “mother” would tell him, that being said, he continued being adventurous. Matt goes from a timid, extremely shy child to a good man and a great leader in the end. In the beginning of the novel, Matt was abused and locked up for literally months and months (when he was just a child.) He doesn’t have any friends, due to the fact that he is a clone and cannot be seen by anybody. “The ways in which the characters in Lorraine Hansberry’s play, A raisin in the sun, are affected by racial imbalances and respond to the injustices engendered by such inequities are solely influenced by their gender.” I agree with this statement to an extent. Although it is correct that gender plays a big role in this play, there are other factors to consider. Context:
People tend to be judged by how others perceive them to be, rather than how they actually are. This statement is shown in the play, Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee.
