Are Pit Bulls Dangerous? This is a simple question, but with many different responses. According to an opinion poll on the dangers of Pit Bulls done by Peter Moore back in 2014, the results were shocking since most agreed that they are not dangerous. I will discuss how the poll is broken down and also critique how the poll was done.
Are Pit Bulls Dangerous
Pit bulls have always had a bad reputation for years of being a vicious dog breed. Mostly because everything you hear is negative, they have been involved in another attack of a small child or they have a raging temper that leads to destruction. However, with this being said, I know a lot of friends who have pit bulls in their own homes and also around small children. Yes, these animals

According to this poll the regions they gathered this information from was the Northeast, Midwest, South, and West of the United States of America. Meanwhile, in getting people across this vast areas to do this poll we asked the following questions: "If you were adopting a dog, would you consider adopting a pit bull?, Say that you knew a family with small children who were considering adopting a dog, would you advise that family in favor of or against a pit bull, or would you not care much either way?, Do you think pit bulls are safe to live in residential neighborhoods, or do you think they're too dangerous to live in residential neighborhoods?, Generally speaking, How dangerous do you think medium-sized dogs are to people and other animals?, Generally speaking, how dangerous do you think pit bulls are to people and other animals?, Which statement comes closer to your opinion?: A) pit bulls are naturally more aggressive than other dogs B) Some dogs are socialized to be aggressive, but pit bulls are no more susceptible than other dogs C) Not sure, and the final question asked is do you think that owning a pit bull should be legal or illegal?"(Yougov, …show more content…
I don't want to give the wrong impression that this is always a bad idea, but it is not ideal for this poll in my opinion. Let's take the first question, "If you are consider adopting a dog would you adopt a pit bull?" for example I can gather that 50% of the total would say no, but I can go further 33% of white people would say yes, while 8% of people from the west region would not even adopt a dog. Therefore this makes the results very muggy to decipher. While the results can be broken down by categories I can't say a Hispanic, female age 35 says yes t adopting a pit bull because the results are not organized in this type manner. Leading to the numbers adding up to 100 and yes this is perfectly done, even with it being confusing they took extra time in making this correct. This poll also got 1,000 people to complete this survey giving it an accurate amount of distribution with answers given. All in all it has its pros and cons, with negatives outweighing the positives, this poll could have been better, but with the information that was given and organized I would say it was a successful opinion poll. I know have a deeper insight to how people feel about pit bulls on a deeper level, and just hope this understanding to increase and know pit bulls need love too regardless of their
The main reason I think pit bulls should not be pets is because they are very aggressive. One of the reasons that supports pit bulls are aggressive is an eight-year-old girl was attacked by a pit bull in her own driveway, and she had to have many surgeries. If you were a parent and your child got seriously injured, how would you feel. (Found in paragraph 6). Mr. Goodwin said, “You can say all you want about all these other breeds, but pit bulls are the choice for drug dealers and other bad folks for a reason.”
After the late 1980’s, the perception of Pit Bulls has been negative ever since. However, issue of danger is not because of the dog’s nature, but because of the training and environment. The media also plays a role in sensationalizing Pit Bulls. Many Americans have the unfortunate habit of believing everything they read in magazines or see on T.V., instead of doing their own investigating. Because of that, many Americans are ignorant about Pit Bulls.
Pit Bulls are strong and fast, which made them ideal candidates for dog fighting. Once they were tied to the word “fight,” movies started to use Pit Bulls in scenes with violence and crime. Unnatural behaviors taught to these dogs caused them to be feared and hated by many, so many that they are now banned in nearly 700 US cities, including Miami-Dade County (ASPCA). Pit Bulls have been banned from flying with certain airlines
“Pit bull” is not a breed. It is a broad term often used to describe dogs with similar characteristics and traits. Last people should be able to keep pit bulls as pets because they are loyal and good dogs to have around. First pit bulls are loyal and good to have around because they were in the past. For example many years ago pit bulls were considered nanny dogs because of their loyalty and gentleness toward their guardians. Today they are not referred to nanny dogs because of the media 's sensationalist news stories, and a proliferation of myths people believe. Some pit bulls were so loyal they even saved there owner from accidents.
According to the Mid-American Bully Breed Rescue, there are approximately 5,000,000 registered pit bulls in the United States alone (Pit). Of that 5,000,000 there are roughly 35,000 in shelters. In Los Angeles alone, 72,800 are euthanized each year; if you break that number down, that means about 200 helpless pit bulls are euthanized each day, however if you would rather look at the bigger picture, in the U.S., 728,000 pit bulls are euthanized in just one year. Numbers like these are immensely horrid especially if you are an animal lover. Research was found to try to notify and persuade people into taking action in the spaying and neutering of their animals, eliminating animal abuse as well as dog fighting.
Pit bulls, should we ban them? You may know the American Pit Bull Terrier’s have been to bred to fight but this is not true. Pit bulls were not bred for fighting they were bred to work and herd cattle. They only got their bad reputation as fighting dog because of the owners who trained them to be mean and aggressive.
This has led people to a debate about whether PitBulls should be allowed to be pets or not. Pit Bulls should not be pets because there are laws against them, bite and don’t let go and they attack people. Firstly, pit bulls should not be allowed to be pets because there are many laws against them. For example in the article,” Miami-Dade County Votes to Keep Pit Bulls Out” it states, “The ban was enacted after a pit bull attacked a young girl.

These dogs have again and again proved themselves to be loving dogs, but society does not give them a chance. The people assume things about the Pit bull but they are wrong. Texas pit bull owners need to teach them to be good.
