Imperialism was an age where countries expanded into new continents and territories for military, economic and religious purposes. The idea of Social Darwinism spread which was originally introduced by Charles Darwin. However, Europeans interpreted his theory of natural selection as an idea that they had to civilize the uncivilized, which turned out to be Africa and Asia. They formed three types of governing bodies in different areas, colonies, protectorates, and spheres of influence, each doing something slightly different but all with the same idea, civilize the uncivilized.
In Africa, it was viewed that the natives were uncivilized people; how they ate and spoke were signs to the Europeans that the African people were uneducated. German leader, Otto Von Bismarck organized the Berlin conference to decide how Africa would be colonized. They decided

China was divided up into spheres of influences for different countries, meaning they controlled exclusive trading rights in that area but weren't in control of the government. The Chinese revolted against the British in the first opium war when they tried to stop the British from exporting opium, however the British swiftly defeated the rebellion and forced the Chinese to sign the Treaty of Nanking opening five ports for the British to export opium, later China was forced to open up eleven more ports to the British. With many european countries controlling basically all of China a group called the Boxers, a nickname given to the Society of the Harmonious Fist, their goal was drive out the foreigners. They were secretly funded by the Chinese government and started a rebellion which came to be known as the Boxer rebellion. They launched a series of attacks against foreigners and the imperialistic powers sent a force of 25,000 troops to crush the boxers and china remained a sphere of influence and the countries kept making

“Based on the documentary Black Indians, why did Native Americans and African Americans form alliances and intermingle historically?” The interracial cooperation between Native Americans and African Americans came from necessity. In addition, the rationale for this relationship has changed periodically throughout the history of their contact in Colonial America. During the period of slavery in the United States, the children of African American man and Native American women would gain the freedom of Native Americans in the United States at that period.
They blew it off. So, John started giving China lavish gifts like building schools and funding Chinese students studies in America. Then, some Chinese citizens got mad that they were run by other countries and created secret societies also known as the Boxer Rebellion. They

Why do some groups have the status that they do? On this planet, Revolutions have played a vital role in shaping the people, and for this reason, there have been countless changes. However, when analyzing the American Revolution, it brought little to no reform for African Americans, Native Americans, and women. Of the three, women would receive the biggest increase in status, followed by African Americans, and Native Americans would slip in rank. These groups would acquire some modification with mixed results.
Imperialism, a policy in which one country of cultural, economic and cultural life influences and dominates another nation. There were several causes responsible for the new imperialism that took place in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, one being the improvements that regions made due to the Industrial Revolution. A sense of biasness from the Western nations, as well as America, and the desire to stand as the top, strongest country came about, triggering political and social forces to occur. Social Darwinism, an element of ruthlessness, the African slave trade, and demands for raw resources were a few economic forces that also led to the new imperialism.
Why did we use Africans? One reason the colonists turned to using africans to work on their plantations is because after native americans became close to europeans they got diseases and it was killing off some of their population. When the native american population was decreasing they needed more people to work for them so they started using Africans. The middle passage was when colonists sailed across the Atlantic ocean and packed slaves into cargo ships. Another reason they used slaves is because Africans came from a very hot place so when it was hot where the colonists live they could work longer because they were used to the heat beating down on them.
Imperialism and the spread of empire felt a new surge of importance in the second half of the 19th century. As industries began looking for new resources and markets to sell their goods, countries began to expand their economic and political power over the majority of the world. This new surge of economic conquest was the result not only of industrialism, but of nationalism and the new phenomenon known as Social Darwinism. When Charles Darwin published his work, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, many leading figures in Europe interpreted it as a justification of social class discrepancies and racial superiority. Class discrepancies and racial superiority were not new occurrences on the European Continent, but they were now backed by scientific evidence that stated
This assumption was based on the fact that “more civilized” meant more technologically advanced. Social Darwinism offered an explanation for the unequal technological development across the world. This gave rise to belief that there was a “hierarchy” of races and that the Europeans were at the top of the hierarchy. Imperialists used genetics as a justified explanation to why white people were more superior to other races. Darwin believed that animal species was adapting and changing to environments in the process of evolution.
In the beginning of the 19th century, the United States had minimal interest in becoming an empire who controlled overseas countries. Instead, Americans decided to just use Manifest Destiny on their own continent as their form of expansion. In the late 1800s, the frontier was announced to be “closed”, so Americans were forced to look overseas in order to expand trade by looking for new markets. After America made the decision to support Cuba in its revolt against Spain during the Spanish-American war, the United States gained its own colonial empire when it defeated Spain in 1898. Once the war ended, Americans had to debate between becoming an imperialist empire or remaining in isolationism.
In 1895, Japan took over a large part of China and so did the Europeans in the late 1890s due to China’s leaders’ lack of power to control their nation by opening up its doors for them to trade and them taking an advantage of it. Many of the US business and government leaders worried they were not give equal opportunity to trade with them so they proposed the Open Door Policy with China. The policy stated all nations will be allowed to trade freely in and with China. Europeans this to be the benefit of the US and would take away their power in China so they did not accept. Later European accepted the Open Door Policy after more than 200 foreigners were killed in the Boxer Rebellion.
In England in 1859, Charles Darwin published his theory of evolution titled “On the origin of species”, This theory was then taken one step further by a sociologist named Herbert Spencer. Spencer’s theory, titled Social Darwinism, stated that some races were superior to others based on the technology they had developed as well as the countries they had conquered. Social Darwinism further stated that the weaker races would die off as they were less sophisticated and couldn’t adapt to their surroundings. This lead to a hierarchy of races with the Europeans being at the top and the native peoples at the bottom. Social Darwinism became the justification for imperial conquest across the globe as it made the ill-treatment of other races acceptable
What if your whole life, every move you made, was always controlled by someone else? Well now you know how the Africans felt during the 1840s, all the way through the 1960s, when Colonialism and imperialism existed the Europeans controlled everything the African people did even if that meant lying to them and breaking promises that they made. Before the Europeans came, Africans had already been trading with other parts of the world. The biggest motivation the European had was their economic growth. They also found vast reserves of gold and diamond.
Imperialism is considered to be a practise of the past; something lost to history and time. Yet, the impacts left behind have only grown over the years. For instance, the Scramble for Africa rapidly increased European wealth while marginalizing indigenous Africans. They had no part in the economic benefits cultivated by their own natural resources. Furthermore, their distinct cultures were belittled and considered barbaric and uncivilized by the Eurocentric standards of Europeans.
