Davy Crockett’s Impact Davy Crockett was born on August 17, 1786 in Greene City, Tennessee. He died on March 6, 1836 in San Antonio, Texas. He was 49 when he died. Crockett was the fifth of six sons in a family also with three daughters. He ran away from Tennessee at an early age after being expelled for fighting. He eventually married Polly Findlay, whom with he had two sons, and moved to Franklin County on the edge of Tennessee to farm. Crockett was unsuccessful in farming and prefered hunting, but stayed nevertheless.
Crockett remained in Franklin County until the war of 1812 broke out, when Crockett went to war following a nearby Indian attack. When Crockett returned from the war in 1815, his wife died of a fever following his return.

In 1819, two years after being appointed County Justice of the Peace, Crockett was elected Colonel of State Militia. This was a major help in future political instances, as both Andrew Jackson and Sam Houston used their being a Colonel of State Militia to forward their political careers. Crockett continued his career until a friend dared him to run for state legislature, which Crockett did. Crockett did not think he was going to be elected until he won by a landslide. Confident in himself, he decided to run for Congress in 1824, but was completely stomped by other politicians. Composing himself, he ran for office again and won. He served in office for two terms until his opposition to Andrew Jackson and his Indian Removal Act lost him reelection a third time. Crockett tried again and won himself another term.
