France did a great deal to help the American colonists during their war for independence from the United Kingdom. It is possible to argue that the American colonists would not have won the war if it had not been for the French assistance. The French did not get involved in the American Revolution right away. The French did want to support the Americans because they wanted to hurt Great Britain (which was their main enemy in Europe). However, they did not believe that the colonists would be able to defeat the British. Therefore, they thought that getting involved would simply lose money and soldiers with no prospect of any return. However, when the Americans won the Battle of Saratoga, France decided that the colonists had a good chance
During the American Revolution, the Americans faced the unique struggle of forging international diplomacy while searching for the foreign support it needed to fight Britain. France was the first place they turned. France was hesitant at first to support the colonies and only gave them a loan, in secret. It wasn't until after the British surrendered at the Battle of Saratoga that they sought out a full alliance. After this and until the end of the war, France provided supplies, arms, and soldiers to the states and were crucial in the British surrender at
This was an advantage for Great Britain because they were able to recruit a large number of people to battle against the colonists. Secondly, Great Britain’s military had structure, which intimidated other countries. Many of Great Britain’s soldiers were well trained and had experienced fighting in war in the past with the French (Kelly, 2014). Great Britain looks attractive to place a bet on to defeat the colonists, but their weaknesses would help them lose this battle. According to John Ferling, the British did underestimate the colonists in battle (Ferling, 2010).
POLITICAL - shortly after the economic surge, peasants and workers across Europe resorted to rebellion, fearful that rising taxes would negate their significant raise of wages. By the end of the 15th century the monarchs of England, France and Spain put an end to the state of unrest by forming state administrations to control sectors of the country, as an extension of the throne. The bubonic plague’s devastating effects on the Native Americans may have helped Spain conquer and colonize the New World by reducing the native’s numbers significantly. SOCIAL - the economic improvement incited what is referred to as the Renaissance in Europe, or an increase of interest and funding for the arts. The Black Death in the New World had the opposite effect,
The French joined because of the loss they had to England on the Seven Years War and wanted to get payback so they joined after noticing that the Americans had beaten the British at Saratoga. The battle took place at Yorktown, Virginia. The French are on the American side and helped the Americans win the war. The French helped by donating guns, food, and ammunition. The war started on September 28 of the year 1781.
The French were a key factor in the Colonists victory. Another reason for the Colonists victory was the fact that they had many smaller advantages against the English. One of them being there fighting spirit. The Colonists had much better reason to fight than the English. The Colonists soldiers were fighting for their own freedom while the English
If France had not joined the Americans, their army would have been much weaker. France had lots to gain back, mainly off of revenge. They would have status and land with the power and allies to help. Spain provided a vast fleet of submarines and other naval force ships. The loyalists did not have much of an underwater defense, so this was a huge positive for power on the Patriot side.
The wonderful victory in October 177, the success they made of the battle, gave France the confidence in the American cause made us free and have the freedom. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't have the freedom or individual rights. It was an amazing success they did for our country and we should thank that and be
“American forces blocked Burgoyne’s way, surrounded his army, and on October 17, 1777, forced him to surrender at Saratoga. ”(pg203-204) This led to another American victory boosting their morale. The battle of Saratoga was a very important battle in the American revolution because this was the point that the French realized that America had a chance at being victorious. The French provided military support from then on and hoped to beat the British.
Lastly France was very known to be part of wars. They even spent lots of money on wars that had no meaning or gains towards what they wanted to accomplish. For an example in the American Revolutionary War, France sailed the seas to help America fight against Great Britain. Questioning the reason for this choice, it was to simply to defeat
France has always had a lively history and has consistently been a pivotal part in Europe. None so prevalent as when this country constantly experienced revolutions during a 60 year period. Revolution, by definition, is the overthrow of one government or a new and hopefully improved one, but from 1789 to 1848 France had terrible governments followed by just as terrible revolutions and nothing seemed to work for them. In fact it was as if France never truly progressed in all of that time. Meanwhile, all of their revolutions sparked others in different countries across the continent, some actually led to real results.
After three centuries of colonial rule, Spanish and Portuguese America got independence. Between 1808 and 1826 all of Latin America except the Spanish colonies of Cuba and Puerto Rico remained under Spanish rule. This was the result of a combination of long-building tensions in colonial rule and a series of external events. The reforms imposed by the Spanish in the 18th century provoked great instability in the relations between the rulers and their colonial subjects in the Americas. Many Creoles felt Bourbon policy to be an unfair attack on their wealth, political power, and social status.
The Americans took place in many wars. One of the wars that the Americans won was the American Revolutionary war! But the founders of America had overcome a big problem. The problem happened after the Americans won the American Revolutionary war. The problem how would they create the new American government.
They also reformed it as a step in the direction of reforming France into more of a free market, so the government would have less control over everyday life, but keep its control on taxation. Evaluate France’s choice to support the American Rebellion against Great Britain in 1776. Make sure to include at least two consequences of this choice. France’s shame from losing the seven-year war was overwhelming, so when they saw an opportunity
However, even with the odds against them they prevailed. The United States were able to win the war for several different reasons. The colonies did not have a single national capital.
Unlike England, America had a very small economy and were outnumbered in troops. The Americans had difficulty raising funds to purchase supplies for their troops and firearm. However, the French involvement drastically changed the outcome of the war. The French provided the Americans with the necessary supplies to be successful during the war with firearm and supples. Frances lost in the Indian war and the continuous rivalry caused the French wanting to give the British revenge.
