Nowadays, this act is extremely important because it insures the quality of foods, and the labels which come with the food. Another series of acts passed during the Progressive Era which are still relevant to this day are the Antitrust acts. The purpose of the Antitrust acts was to prohibit trusts which allowed monopolies to thrive in the economy. ”They also sought regulation of monopolies (“trust-busting”) and corporations through antitrust laws. These antitrust laws were seen as a way to promote equal competition for the advantage of legitimate competitors”(Lumenlearning). The removal of these monopolies allows multiple companies to compete in the economy, which is why there are a lot of companies relevant today like: Coca-Cola, Pepsi, 7-up, etc... Political Changes of the Progressive Era Prior to the Progressive Era, politics was influenced by Laissez-Faire economics. This meant the government let supply and demand dictate the economy. This would lead to unregulated industry with generally poor conditions. Politics also turned a blind eye to social issues of the industrial era. This would change with the emergence of the progressive era.
The progressive era was very important because it helped America be better by allowing equal rights, treating people better, and making everyone a better person. Once it finally gets its chance after the Great Depression and World War, people finally realize the vastly fulfilling effects it has on their lives, it begins to blow up.
