Fry (2015) opines that the role of nurses has changed in the previous decade. The current medical sector demands that the nurses should be critical thinkers that offer reliable services. The nursing field also demands that the practitioners should be well-educated and trained to handle various activities at their workplace. The role of nurses has changed and the new requirements for individuals to meet their mandate to work in such an environment has forced them to make complex decisions. The nurses do not rely on the doctors in making vital medical decisions about their patients. More so, the change in the healthcare needs of many individuals in the world has led to a change in the scope of the nurses. Thus, the change in scope has dictated
Nurses provide a vital role in the health care system. Sure, we may not be able to diagnose or write prescriptions. However, we are the main advocates for the patients. We also stand by the side of our patients through their entire hospital stay. It is the nurse who notices the smallest changes in their patients.
Nursing in America: How a nurse’s working conditions and work load are effecting patient care as a whole Ryleigh M. Kennedy Mill Valley High School AP Literature and Composition Mr. Shull May 9, 2023 Abstract This paper goes over how the nursing shortage is effecting patient care around the world. This paper also provides solutions to this global issue and why it should be considered an issue to all of society.
According to Garson (2000), the primary issues of healthcare, which were improving access, lowering costs, and improving the quality of care, would accelerate through 2010. Later in 2008, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) along with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation researched the need of radically changing the nursing profession to confront the issues of healthcare (National Academy of Sciences, n.d.). Through these issues the IOM has devised a report suggesting the transformation of nursing practice, education, and leadership. By transforming the nursing profession, the IOM will give way for positive changes in the healthcare system. With this said, the IOM has researched and devised a plan to confront the issues of healthcare, however, how will this impact the nursing profession?
In the public eye, in order to be truly successful one would have to become a doctor. The media source from the medical drama house also shows the false image of the inferior uneducated nurse. They showed this by the physician saying things such as “It’s better than calling a nurse,” implying that they are uneducated and beneath them when that is not the case. Nursing is a completely different field, and requires a specific skills set. A majority of the tasks the public see physicians do in the television dramas are nursing tasks.
I will also have a chance to interact with people from different cultural groups thus making it easy to develop cultural competence in my line of duty. On the other hand, I will gain experience in handling different patients with a variety of needs for restoration of their health (Reel & Abraham, 2007). The nursing profession in the future will receive the support of the government, the hospital administration and the community served. As a result, working in different parts of the country will ensure that I acquire more skills and advance the learned ones thus meeting the demands of the patients. The future will thus offer an opportunity for the APRNs to operate in different parts of the country thus achieving long-term
Analysis of the Nurse Industry Nursing is a profession focusing on healthcare on a personal and public scale. This industry for centuries nurses have been a practice, however it wasn’t till Florence Nightingale that nursing became an established as a profession, she created the foundations of modern nursing. What It Is and What It Is Not (1860) by Nightingale were the first documented notes on the philosophy of nursing (Crisp, Douglas, Rebeiro & Waters, 2009). Following that she founded the Nightingale Training School for Nurses; the first institution for nursing.
Why the Role of Nurses Is Important in Healthcare Ryan Kumar English Department: Glendale Community College ENG102: First-Year Composition Feb 1, 2023 Rhetorical Analysis of “Why the Role of Nurses is Important in Healthcare” The Mercer University article titled, “Why the Role of Nurses is Important in Healthcare”, discusses how nurses are the foundation of the healthcare system. The author uses numerous rhetorical strategies to portray why nurses should be treated with respect and valued for their work. Mercer University uses pathos by emotionally describing how, “nurses are delivered a high standard of care to the general public” (Why the Role of Nurses is Important in Healthcare 2021 pg. 2).
As mentioned before, an increase of technology use is a major influence on nursing, the introduction of evidence-based practice in the professional field and in the educational environment play a role in a nurse’s everyday life. Also, there are the changes in society itself that benefit the nursing profession. For example, the breaking of stereotypical gender roles in society results in male nurses
Nursing, and everything that it entails, cannot be easily described in just one simple word or phrase. It goes beyond the meaning of a profession and the stereotypical definition of treating the ill. Nursing is the “protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2010, p. 1). Therefore, it is a career that requires dedication, passion, critical thinking, and knowledge. It demands commitment and an understanding of its core values and concepts, as well as the nurse’s own personal philosophy and principles.
We are not one of them just yet, and while we can relate to them as being where they used to be, in nursing school, we cannot yet relate to them regarding experience and capability. Furthermore, nurses tend to be separated from doctors in a particularly different way than students are from nurses. Commonly thought of as inferior and subordinate to doctors, nurses are often portrayed as lowly in the medical hierarchy, separate and unequal to the other medical professionals, despite being just as important as the doctors of the facility. As the last line of defense, Nurses act as almost personal protectors against medical errors for the patients, but they are more so considered maids, the fetchers, instead of the scientific, medical professional
Nurses are critical for promoting health in the society. The profession is highly flexible, since they specialize in diverse operations in the medical field. Registered nurses, for instance, are responsible for the administration of medicine and inoculations to patients (American Nurses ' Association, 2000). Additionally, these professionals observe, record, and enlighten doctors of any changes in a patient’s health. Nurses interpret and evaluate diagnostic examinations to determine an individual’s condition, as well as making the necessary adjustments in patient treatment plans on their health progress.
Browne (2015) says that films and movies shows the importance of doctors and nurses in all aspects of genre and life. It shows that doctors and nurses are the basics of health care structure. Of course, many other medical professionals, such as pharmacist, midwifes and therapist are working in the health care industry, but the majority of diagnosis and patient care are executed by doctors and nurses. Physicians noticeably have more education than nurses, as always shown on films and movies, and that’s the reason why they can prescribe medication and prescription, but subject on the health care scenario, there can be a significant connection on the responsibilities and task of doctors and nurses.
Critical thinking skills are gain by time. I also believe that other healthcare providers often over looked the nurse’s ability to thinking critically and this had been agreed by (Arnold & Boggs, 2011). Healthcare industry is becoming more and more multifaceted and complex. Task nursing responsibilities had increased markedly. Nurses are required to have critical thinking; the ability to question and make rational decisions had become even more important.
The role of the nurse has always been that of the first point of contact for the patient to the clinical care team. As outlined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (2016) the role of the nurse is to advocate, educate, liaise with, and provide adequate and appropriate clinical care to the patient. Additionally, the nurse represents the statistical majority of the Australian clinical team, outnumbering medical doctors at a ratio of almost 4:1 (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013) which is consistent throughout all sectors of healthcare. Therefore, the nurse has a powerful and tangible effect on policy and the outcomes for patients in the clinical setting.
Globally healthcare industry is known to have a good market and there are many services supporting each other to build a strong foundation for any healthcare organization. One of the major components in any healthcare organizations is the nursing team as nursing consist the biggest number of employees in a healthcare organization. Nursing is a noble profession and it is a tough job. Nurses manage all types of people, conditions and situations, handling the patient’s, their families, doctors and other healthcare providers. Nurses do work long hours, reaching the hospital before sunrise and leaving after the sun sets.
