In the past, many key figures in America’s history have been honored with their face on the country’s currency, such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, was given a spot on the 20 dollar bill. Jackson’s actions as a president were less than honorable or heroic. Due to his reputation and operations, Andrew Jackson deserves to be taken off of the 20 dollar bill. There are several reasons why Jackson should not be on the American 20 dollar bill. First, he was known for implementing the Spoils System, a method in which the President chooses government officials based on their support towards him. Citizens despised the Spoils System because the trusted government officials were fired, while untrustworthy men took over. One political cartoon depicts Jackson on a stand with a plaque that reads “To the victors belong the spoils.” The words describe a scenario where Jackson and his supporters get to run the government because they won the election. It was clear that citizens of America were not happy with the Spoils System, as it contributed to a flawed government. …show more content…
Americans believed that Jackson was ruling the country and abusing his powers, similar to a king. Paintings depicting Jackson in a outfit, comparable to one a king would wear, were quickly spread around. One picture shows Jackson in a robe, above a throne, with words and phrases on the sides. Some words stated “King Andrew the First” and “Born to command.” Jackson is also holding a piece of paper that says “veto,” because citizens especially thought he was abusing his power to veto laws. Andrew Jackson’s form of management was substantially disliked throughout the
Jackson was a frontier president. He used his position to shift the center of political power from the East to the West. He was an influential national figure who believed that the president is someone who symbolized the interests of the people. The president shouldn’t just be an executive, but a person who can run the government with the people’s will in mind. His goal was to end the government’s corruption and cure the country’s financial problems, which he thought were caused by the rich elites running businesses and other financial corporations.
So that caused him to be favored in the lower class. Considering his life and Presidency, Andrew Jackson does not deserve to be on the $20 Bill because he caused the trail of tears, he challenged the national bank, and he defeated the British right after the war was technically over! A reason that Jackson does not deserve to be on the
Jackson received harsh criticism for acting without the consent of Congress since he had gone beyond the scope of his constitutional authority. During this era of his reign, he is behaving as though he is the king and is obstructing every other thing. Jackson was the first president to declare that the president is the most important democratically elected official in the country and to greatly expand executive power. Furthermore, Jackson had engaged in the Spoils System and Rotation of Officeholders during his presidency. The Spoils System addressed a method of having favoritism towards a person or group.
Ulysses S. Grant is the face you see when you receive a fifty dollar bill. But when you look at the face, what do you think? Do you think of greatness? Do you feel secure? United States currency is supposed to represent what we stand for as a nation.
Every single U.S. dollar bill is printed with the face of an important person on it. They are mostly printed with the faces of men who have helped change America for the better. The people who are on the dollar bills should be people who have revolutionized America in a positive way, value what America stands for today, and they expressed leadership and courage. Andrew Jackson does not meet these standards especially because he made many decisions during his presidency that had negative effects. He had economical, political, and social impacts on the nation which were negative.
Andrew Jackson was inaugurated on March 4, 1829 as the seventh president of the United States of America. His inauguration was so joyous for the citizens that he was given the nickname "King Mob," due to the mad rush of people who stormed the White House to get a chance to shake his hand. Although Jackson's presidency lived up to its title, the "era of the common man," he also participated and led many unconstitutional acts during his reign. Due to these reasons, Jackson does not deserve to be on the twenty-dollar bill.
Andrew loved sports and was ill-tempered. At just 13 years old, Jackson joined the militia and was captured by the British. After the war, he decided to become a lawyer in North Carolina. Jackson should not be on the twenty dollar bill because he caused the Nullification Crisis, passed the Indian Removal Act, and created the spoils system. To begin, Jackson caused the Nullification Crisis.

The United States dollar is one of the most respectable and valuable forms of money in the world. And along with this respectability, the U.S. dollar also has an extremely intricate history. Before and after when the nation was first forming, American colonists/citizens used a form of money called continental currency. Over time this forms of money enveloped much of the common bills we see today, such as the popular 10$ bill. As each new bill was honored by someone in recent history (Of the notes creation, not our recent history), not many people of the female gender or people of different backgrounds have been put on a mainstream, popular bill such as the 20$ bill.
Because of these infringements on the rights of the people, Andrew Jackson was not a champion of the common man; the nickname “King Andrew,” from his opponents was accurate. When he was elected president, Andrew Jackson felt that he needed to remove John Quincy Adams’ appointees from office. To him, the clear answer was to replace them with his own followers and friends, creating a government where only one political party was effectively represented by presidential appointments. This use of the spoils system put people who were not qualified in powerful positions simply as a reward for supporting Jackson. He also had thirteen unofficial members in his cabinet to advise him.
Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. He started by replacing many government jobs to officials with his supporters”. This is a major reasons why Jackson was bad. He would be considered an absolute Monarch or King. An example of this is when the Supreme Court sides with the Indians against the state of Georgia, and jackson ignores the supreme court’s ruling. The “spoils system” corrupted the government because no one had a chance to get good at their
One of the biggest thing that Jackson had done as a president was in 1832. Jackson vetoed a bill that would renew the second bank charter early. Jackson stated “I will kill it!”. He said this because he didn’t like the bank at all and he believed that it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. He said in his veto message “It is easy to conceive that great evils to our country and its institutions might flow from such a concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people.”
