John Witherspoon stated, “You win some, you lose some, but you LIVE, you LIVE to fight another day!” As a fan of football I have to keep this statement in my head. Time after time I would watch CAU get defeated by teams that, but I still had faith that one game we would be victorious. As the season continued I began to start seeing fewer students at the games to support our players, and I began to question my own faith in our team. CAU’s students should support and have faith in CAU’s football team, because a true fan never loses faith in their team, the players work hard and try their best, and CAU is their Alma Mater. Deep down inside I can say that I am true fan of CAU’s football team. Being a true fan, I was at all of the home games, siting in the bleachers cheering on our players. Although the games we lost outweigh the games we won, as a fan I would leave the stadium just like the players with head lifted high. I still remember how my friends would tell me …show more content…
I know this because I have several friends who are on the football team, and after practice some of them would come by room. While they were in my room they would sometime tell me how they would have to wake early in the morning for practice, then go to classes, and then after that go to practice again. As a regular student I can barely balance my life and my classes, while foot players may have the same problems, but then when a sport is added the their life, their lives become more difficult. Therefore when students constantly are telling me about how our football team is “ Trash” and “Sorry”, I am hurt, because they do not know how hard our players work in preparation for our Saturday games. Furthermore if student will not support our football team because of the hard work performed by our players, then they should because CAU is our Alma
It was Nov. 10, 2012 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. More than 100,000 fans packed Bryant-Denny Stadium waiting to watch their unanimously-ranked No. 1 Crimson Tide annihilate another opponent. After all, the Tide were led by head coach Nick Saban, one of the best in the business, and only one of their wins on their way to a 9-0 record was by less than 19 points. In come the upstart Aggies from Texas A&M, led by a talented but very young freshman quarterback, who had just begun making noise around the country with his exciting and controversial style.

Possession was the one thing on everyone’s mind. Time was evaporating, the other team and their fans started to get optimistic. The buzzer announced the end of the competition and the roar from our opponents deafened cries from our team and our fans. We had lost the first game for our program in fourteen years.
Miami coach Al Golden was so proud of his team. ” Give Nebraska credit for the way they played” he said, “But give our kids a lot of credit for fighting, scratching, clawing, staying together, having a poise and finishing it in overtime.” . On the other hand though “ the Cornhuskers (1-2) have a losing record after three games for the first time since 1981.” . All
On Monday February 6th, I had the privilege to attend the Kansas vs. Kansas State men’s basketball game which is an annual rivalry between two of the top programs in the state of Kansas. The Sunflower Showdown is a series of rivalry games throughout the year between Kansas and Kansas State in multiple sports such as football, basketball, and baseball. The two teams have a long history of hostility and bitterness and this night was just another one in a long line of classic games. Both teams entering the game were sitting in good contention for the NCAA tournament and Kansas held a No. 3 ranking in the polls, the game earlier in the year in Lawrence played a key role in the attitude the fans held coming into the game. Kansas won that game by
NC State came back, and went on a run of extremely close games to win the ACC, players recall- now it looks like practice, we’re cutting down the net, they can now see what Valvano had been seeing all along, they believed. The NC State team went into the NCAA, and made it to the final where they were complete underdogs, they won by 2 points in the final second-true NC fashion, and achieved the ‘dream’ through nothing but belief, mental toughness, and
As a baby, I was still just the same Ohio State fan. I would chant and cheer for the scarlet and grey. I made a slight pronunciation issue that I will forever laugh at because it said Ohio Steak instead of Ohio State. I was defiantly the laughing stock of the family on Saturday’s and now no one can call me a fake fan because I was rooting for the Buckeye’s before I could even pronounce the words correctly. In the winter of my kindergarten year, a major snowstorm struck in Ohio.
Everyone in the nation knows of at least one college athlete. Many people have a favorite school and in many cases that is because they either have grown up watching that college team or even attended that school. Most people in the country think that college athletes are important to the school and to our lives because they provide the country with some sort of entertainment. As many sports fans know, college athletes are not allowed to be paid to play until they reach ‘the league’. Some people would even say that these athletes deserve some type of pay, some deserve a scholarship raise, and some think what the athletes are receiving right now is plenty.
The Cougars Final Game Doesn’t every team want to win their first state title. In a little town in Iowa, the team Iowa Cougars were going for their first state title. The team was being lead with their senior named Anthony Soto. He has been the starting quarterback every year. He had no injuries all 4 years so no one else got a chance.
Recruiting is an important factor in any college sport but most definitely in football. With HBCU football programs possessing a negative image this unfortunately veers young athletes to take another route. People don’t want to watch 1 star athletes play football, harsh statement but true in its validity. HBCU football programs are starting to appear on TV more than it has in the past and this is a great thing to see as an HBCU football player. We understand we aren’t the most popular but we’re doing the same thing they’re doing just not in the spot
In early September my family and I took a trip up to State College, Pennsylvania for the Rutgers Penn State game. Even though it was not the outcome I wanted for my Scarlet Knights, we still had a great time. Just being there for only a couple minutes, I quickly learned that when you travel for an away game with your desired sports team, you are going to feel like the minority. Kickoff was at eight o’clock in the evening, so that meant my day started at eleven in the morning in “Happy Valley.”
Here it is, another season of blood sweat and tears. Wear and tear on your body over and over and over again. A grueling process in which time is your worst enemy, because when that time runs out, an injury comes flying in and you’re left alone. There is a big misconception of how student athletes are treated. For years student athletes have sacrificed themselves for a sport, but get nothing in return.
While some believe that athletes should have their own choice at making a decision to go pro straight out of high school, they should not do so because they will not be able to manage their million dollar contracts respectively. Speaking of contracts, the NBA should eliminate guaranteed contracts for rookies drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. They should do this because a careless high school kid, could just go into the draft not knowing, or caring on how much they are going to make, with the lack of experience on handling millions of dollars. This is very unrepsonsibible for a teenager, and not only for the high school athlete, but also for the basketball association as well. This is because of there noncommitment to have these players
Athletes who play football or basketball are at a higher risk of career ending injuries. These two sports are the hardest on an athletes body. Only one out of twenty-five college athletes go pro, so why put your body at risk when you don’t receive anything for doing that and your chances of going pro are slim? A lot of these student athletes are stressed out because of schoolwork participating in a college sport. This is just another reason that these athletes deserve to be
