INTRODUCTION As a part of the requirements for the Introduction to Hospitality Law subject, I am required to do a research and write an essay that provides evidence of the importance of knowledge of laws in the Hospitality Industry and five (5) key legal issues that affect this industry.

CONTENT

Hospitality law is related to the concept of legal liability and it is meant to legally protect both hosts and guests. Hospitality law covers many different type of businesses while the most common hospitality law clients are hotels and restaurants. Hospitality law commonly relate to travel, food service and lodging industries. Having sufficient knowledge of laws in hospitality industry is very important for employees, managers, owners and other staff members so the breaking of law can be avoided. Accurate knowledge should be conveying to one another because negative publicity, lawsuits or fines could happen if one fails to follow state and federal laws. (Thompson, nd) Customers are the major source of income of a business. Therefore, keeping customers safe is one of the major objectives when running a business. In hospitality industry, having proper knowledge about how to clean and store food is important as it can keep the customers safe and fines could be avoided. Essential clauses for providing products and services to guests
A contract is a legally enforceable agreement involving two or more persons. Most contracts in business today have an exclusion clause which is referring to a clause in a contract that limits liability. Exclusion clauses are required to drafted correctly to provide maximum protection to the business especially for the business which have gyms, pools or other activity that guests can take part in. Explanation about this document needed to be given to customers as well or a legal court may not enforce the exclusion clause. (Hawes, 2015)
5. Music copyright
Most establishments nowadays play music during daily operation to enhance the ambiance. Playing music in the establishment brings many benefits which include creating a memorable experience for the customers based to the theme and concept of the establishment. At the same time, it is important for the establishment to be aware that a license fee is required if intend on playing music or screening music videos and DVD’s. The copyright in the song and the copyright in the recording and/or music video of the song are the common copyrights in most recordings and music videos. (Katherine, 2014)
