The Criminal Justice System is to seek safety, protection, control in crimes, and to minimize crimes from criminal offenders. In the trail of Jodi Arias members of the jury faced a difficult task for the murder of Travis Alexander. They must evaluate many conflicting and confusing problems of a troubled relationship, and finally make a decision whether or not the evidence in this case reaches a verdict of guilty beyond reasonable doubt. Travis Victor Alexander was born on July 28, 1977, in Riverside, California. His parents were addicted to crystal meth. Travis and his seven siblings were taking in by their paternal grandmother Norma, after the death of their father in 1997. Growing up she was a problem child. She was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Borderline personality disorder is a mental health condition in which a person has long term patterns of unstable or turbulent emotions. Arias met Alexander at a Prepaid Legal Service Conference in September 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Arias were baptized into the Church Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Alexander on November 26, 2006. Alexander and Arias began dating in February 2007. After the two break up but still maintaining a physical relationship, Arias moves to Mesa, Arizona in June 2006. Prosecutors characterized Alexander to be a man of good faith and didn’t go against its teachings. Juan Martinez the prosecutor sought the death penalty. Appointed counsel L. Kirk Nurmi and Jennifer Willmott who represented Arias argued the death of Alexander was a justifiable homicide that was committed in self-defense. Ryan Burns testified and said Arias visited Utah on June 5 and spent several hours together. Arias told Burns she had cut herself at work. She worked at a restaurant called Margaritaville. A detective testifies that there is no restaurant in Yreka area that exists by that name. The prosecution argued that Arias staged the burglary and Alexander’s death. Because a .25 caliber round was found near the body of Alexander, and a week before a .25 caliber gun comes up missing in Yreka at the home of Arias grandparents where she was living. Martinez claimed that Arias was stalking Alexander, slashing his tires, and that he was afraid of her. February 4, 2013 Arias in her own defense comes to the stand to testify for 18 days.
