Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer and Paul’s Boots documentary have many similarities and differences. One of the similarities is the theme of not letting something stop you from accomplishing your dreams. One of the differences is the idea of leaving everyday life in a normal society to be in the wilderness. Paul’s Boots is a documentary about people hiking the Appalachian trail for a cause. One of the characters is a man named Alex. He has a medical condition called epilepsy, this causes him to have many seizures. This means that he has to take medicine and should not be doing too much strenuous activity. His dream was always to hike the Appalachian trail. McCandless’s dream was to go into the Alaskan bush and survive away from society for a while. He did this by meeting new people and hitchhiking all the way to Alaska. Along their way there were a couple of people that told him that he shouldn’t do it. One in particular was Jim Gallien, the last one to give him a ride. When he picked him up and learned what McCandless’s plan was. After hearing this Galien realized that he did not have nearly enough supplies on him to survive for months. He tried to discourage McCandless to go with that little supplies. McCandless would not listen to him and eventually went out anyway. McCandless did not let anybody tell him how he should live his life. Even if it could be dangerous he still did it despite multiple people telling him that he shouldn’t. McCandless did not tell his family or anybody that he was going to leave and embark on this adventure. He had graduated from Emory University with a 3.72 grade point average. He was a very smart kid and had a lot going for him. He had all of his college education paid for by a friend of his families.His parents also offered to buy him a new car for his graduation present. He would not accept this gift. Even though he was living a very good life he did not want to live in the traditional society.
