Jamie Benton was a fun, funny, corky, happy 6th grade girl. She was that but she was in no way normal or ordinary. She had her two groups of friends. She also had a tough, mean, hard side to her. One group was nice, smart, and caring, she fit into it well. The other was loud and daring, this one fit her like her better. Jamie’s parents didn't want her to cuss, but with her rambunctious group she was a totally different person. She had a “dark side” that she showed only to them. If James’ would have done that then they would be dating. Dating at twelve years old isn't needed but her older sister Kayla got her first boyfriend at twelve. Rob was talking to his friend Roosevelt, which he had brought his cousin (Paulette), and Rob found good interest into her. Rob and Paulette started hanging out more and more, and then one day, it all happened in a blink of an eye. They kissed. Rob and Paulette were not sure of how their parents would approve of this, so Rob brought Paulette to his house to visit with his family, and his parents were partially shocked because they want him to be more focused on school than dating and stuff. Rob and Paulette kept on being friends and just went on with life.
While reading the story, you can tell in the narrators’ tone that she feels rejected and excluded. She is not happy and I’m sure, just like her family, she wonders “why her?” She is rejected and never accepted for who she really is. She is different. She’s not like anyone else
People should be different, but the whole society is essentially the same. When people of the society are mad, sad, happy, or bored they all act the same way and do the same things. Very few people do things differently. One person in particular, Clarisse McClellan,“ [goes] out and hikes around in the forest and [watches] the birds” when she has strong emotions (23). She is unique and does “odd” things, and she is very different than the rest of the society.
